My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ - Due to the nature of our adoption process, this foster is only able to consider forever families within 30 miles from zip code 75082. A vet reference and trial adoption will be done before the adoption is finalized. Thank you for your understanding.

Red was born on March 5, 2018, in a foster home after his mom was found as a stray in East Texas already very pregnant. The family that found her reached out to our group asking if we could take her in as she was too sweet to be taken to the local kill shelter. A week after arriving in her foster home, Red’s mom Lucy had 8 sweet little pups, Red was the first one to be born. He grew up with his siblings a happy and sweet pup and was adopted out to a family that seemed to be the perfect home for him in June 2018. He was by far the calmest of the litter and loved little kids, so placing him with a calm family in a small town with little kids seemed like a no-brainer. We were very surprised and saddened to hear from them as they wanted to return him now that he is 8 months old and 60lb just because he did not grow up to be the sedentary dog they thought he would be when they adopted him as a 3-month-old puppy. The family says he is the sweetest dog but they don’t have time to walk him or play ball with him, so he is just bored and does not seem happy. As his foster mom, it breaks my heart to hear that because having raised him from the moment he was born, we wanted nothing more than to find him the forever family he could be happy with and call him own, but unfortunately his world is being turned upside down as that family does not want him anymore. Red was one of our favorites from that litter, he is incredibly affectionate, gets along with every dog and every kid he sees, loves to go on walks and to go swimming, and wants nothing more in life than to be loved and given attention. A DNA test showed that he is ½ Bassett Hound, ¼ Aussie, 1/8 Lab and 1/8 German shorthaired pointer. We would love to find him a home that will truly be his forever home; he is such a great dog, he deserves nothing less than that. Just know that yes he sheds (not too much but just some), yes he is still an energetic puppy on the inside who needs an outlet for that energy not to be destructive (such as going on walks, having a dog playmate or playing ball, like all young dogs do), and yes he is big and hasn’t been properly trained not to jump up. If any of those are deal-breakers for you, this is not the dog you are looking for. If you are interested in meeting Red, the first step is to fill out an application at furryfriendsanimalrescue.org. Once we receive your application we can give you a call to plan a meet and greet if it seems like a good fit.

Anyone interested in our dogs must be over 21. We are only able to adopt to homes within a reasonable driving distance of the dog's foster home (zip 75082) and please be prepared for a home visit by one of our volunteers. We do not adopt on first-come-first-served basis, we want to make sure the dog is right for the family and vice versa based on what we know about the dog's personality, habits and behaviors. Our adoption fee for dogs is $175.

You can complete an online adoption application on our website http://www.furryfriendsanimalrescue.org- we will get back with you asap.

Foster Homes are needed in order to help more dogs and cats. Please consider opening your heart and home to a homeless animal. Check out our website on how to become a Foster Parent! Visit www.FurryFriendsAnimalRescue.org and look under HOW TO HELP. Furry Friends provides veterinary care - you provide the home and love!.

We also need Volunteers for Adoption Events at Petsmart and Cage Cleaners.
