My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi… I’m Toby Keith, I am a 6 or 7 year old Shih Tzu.
Sadly my family didn’t care enough about me to keep me safe and I found myself at an animal shelter. No-one came to take me home.

Apparently that’s not unusual but I’m a special boy –
You wouldn’t know it but I’m completely blind and the
Vet told my foster mom that I had been blind for a long time.
My foster mom said I didn’t act blind and my eyes look perfectly normal but I can't see.

I love it when she lets me cuddle beside her and sometimes she lets me sleep with her. I am looking for a home with a family who will love me forever even though I am blind.

Its OK if my new home has another dog as long as its a similar size as me.. I like cats and older kids as long as they know how to treat animals.

I can completely navigate around my foster home, including going to the back door but I do need some work with house-training so I will need someone to be home often with me.
Apart from not being able to see I am in good health and will make you a loving companion for many years.

If you think you would like to be this sweet boy’s new home, go to our website and complete an adoption application. His foster mom will contact you as soon
as possible. We are asking that applicants live within 15 miles of zip code 75035 (Frisco).

Toby is a ShihTzu so he doesn't shed but will need brushing and periodic professional grooming

Additional adoption info

We do not adopt on a first-come, first-served basis - it is our goal to find the right home for the cat or dog as well ensuring that the cat or dog is the right match for it's new family. A win/win situation.
For dogs, we require an application, home visit for approved application, and home trial period to ensure that it's a good fit for the dog and the family.
For cats, we require an application, but do allow same-day adoptions. Our goal is to find our fosters a "forever" home.
Our Adoption Fees are $140 for cats and $175 for dogs.

All our cats and dogs are fully vetted prior to adoption - this includes all age-appropriate vaccinations, feline leukemia/aids testing, heartworm tests, deworming, spay or neuter, microchips and other medical treatment as required.

You can fill out an Adoption Application online on our website.

Go meet their pets

All our cats and dogs live in foster homes so we don't have a physical shelter for you to visit.
A selection of FFAR cats will be showcased EVERY DAY at:

McKinney Craig Ranch PetSmart at Custer/Hwy 121
AND
McKinney PetSmart #1751 N. Central Expressway.

Adoption Counselors will be in attendance at both PetSmarts on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday from 11 am - 4 pm. and Sunday from 12 noon - 4 p.m.

A selection of the FFAR dogs will be at the Craig Ranch McKinney PetSmart (Custer/Hwy121) on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays of the month. Not all dogs will attend and times will vary. Please check our Facebook Page for updates on the day of the Meet & Greet.
Adoption Counselors will be in attendance during that time.

If you are interested in meeting any of our cats or dogs, just send us an email or fill out an Adoption Application on our website. The Adoption Application is not a commitment just a means of introduction. We look forward to hearing from you!

More about this rescue

Furry Friends Animal Rescue

We are a new group started in 2013 by a large group of experienced rescuers - we wanted to be part of an ethical rescue group which would allow us to help homeless cats and dogs in the North Texas area. We value all the experience and knowledge brought to this group by the volunteers so the group is member based. We welcome new volunteers and fosters, both experienced or new to rescue. You can contact us by email or through our website - we will get back to you as soon as possible.
