My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Whiskey or "Whiskers" has an interesting background. He was born in a kill pen. His mother was waiting to be shipped to slaughter in Canada, and lucky for her (and Whiskey) dropping a foal in the kill pen saved her life.

Whiskey has been ridden in the mountains, but prefers flatter trails. He is very well mannered, easy to catch - actually comes when you call him most of the time, he leads, ties, loads in trailers, lunges, stands nicely for the farrier, goes English or Western, and is responsive to legs and reins. A slight squeeze and he is willing to move forward. He is truly a gentle giant of a horse.

Under saddle, Whiskey was an absolute gentleman to ride. When I asked him to move, it only took a small squeeze. A trot was achieved with another small squeeze and a couple of clucks. He climbed over the sandpile that we have not finished spreading in the arena without even a hesitation. Whiskey would be best suited to an intermediate rider. He is very sensitive, obedient, and responds to cues well, but he can get nervous if he feels like the rider doesn't know what they are doing. All in all, he is a joy to ride and whoever ends up adopting him will be thrilled with his lovely temperament!

Update 5/1/09: I have been experimenting with some of the Parelli games with Whiskey, and he LOVES it! In just a few minutes, he was standing still while I flipped the string on the stick across his back and around his legs, backing up, and following me around the arena - all at liberty!
