Vinny is a special senior who was found as a stray and went into long term boarding at a clinic. He became so shut down that he just stared at the wall all day. We were asked to put him into the program in hopes the exposure would find him a forever home. We agreed, and on the very 1st day he joined the program, we saw a dog go from shut down to all smiles. Vinny is a special needs guy. He’s either completely deaf or close to it. You know what his handlers said when we realized he was deaf and couldn’t be trained the way the others dogs were being trained? “Don’t worry, we got this!” Through deaf dog training books, ASL flash cards, and other deaf dog training materials, Vinny’s handlers have done an AMAZING job with his training and we are SO proud of them! We’ll admit, though, that despite all of his training there are days when we can’t tell if he just isn’t paying attention or if he’s saying, “I’m old! Don’t tell me how to live my life!” Vinny is quite the character and will literally fuss at you with all his grumpy old man sass when he’s not getting the attention he wants or the treat that is taking too long to go from your hand to his mouth. He will stare at you with clear intent as he, in dog, says, “Hey! Hey! Yeah, you! Pet meeeee!” or “Give me the treattttt!” Vinny is “Get off my lawn!” cool!

Pit Bull mix listed as 8 years old, but we strongly believe he is at least 11+ years old
Fixed, UTD On shots, and microchipped
Deaf - knows sign language
Dog friendly, but would do best in a home with a dog(s) with matching low energy or medium energy
Kid friendly, but would do best in a home with kids 8+ years old who can respect his special needs
Cat friendly
Low energy - yummy food, a soft place to sleep, and ‘lots of love is what will make Vinny happy
House/kennel trained
Will graduate fully obedience trained, AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) ready, and/or Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD in Canine Life and Social Skills (CLASS) ready
*If Vinny doesn’t get adopted he will need a foster home as it’s time for him to come out of the program to allow another dog to join.*
