Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Mel is a very sweet, shy boy in search of his forever family.
He's ready for adoption to the right family that will be patient with him and help him become a more confident dog. He will need another dog in the home to show him the ropes of being a family dog...he can be skittish, but is much better with an outgoing canine friend. He is about a year old and sweet as can be, he is very happy and affectionate with his people, but shy with new people at first. He needs to learn about the world and slowly be exposed to new situations. He is a pleaser and will work for treats, he's very smart and already knows sit and down! He does well in a crate, but needs continued consistency with potty training. He loves other dogs and is good with cats (although slightly interested in them) he would do best with adults only because he is skittish. He is up to date on shots, microchipped, neutered and on preventatives. This boy would love a family with a fenced yard and another confident doggy friend...or several... to show him the ropes of family life!!!
Update:
Mel needs a special adopter. He is afraid of everything new basically. He was left in a crate outside for his first year of life, so he's pretty under socialized with people. He LOVES other dogs though and looks to them for security...so he really needs a doggy friend. He's pretty normal in the home once he adjusts and very much likes affection and to please, but it does take awhile. He also has some territorial tendencies once he feels comfortable, which he's had a couple incidents with visitors coming to the yard at his fosters. He is fine if introduced properly on a leash, but he needs someone that understands this behaviour and knows how to manage it safely.
