My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What is your name?
My Name is Picasso! I happen to have a very bright and colorful personality!

How old are you?
They tell me I'm about two and a half years old!

What do you look like?
I'm a red fawn sort of color with some black around my face. I'm not super tall, but I am built fairly athletically!

What do you like to eat?
When I first came into rescue I didn't like cookies very much - I preferred toys! But, my foster mom has tried all sorts of options and now, aside from my meals (which I love!), I love high value cookies, and occasionally something special like ice cream or yogurt! Kongs and Bully Sticks are great, too!

What kind of personality do you have?
I'm easy going and a total love bug! I didn't have a great start to life, so sometimes things worry me a little bit. I recover very quickly, but I need a family that knows I'm not going to respond to everything with 100% confidence, and that I need a little time to adjust to new routines. I love playing, learning, and cuddling on the couch though!

Describe your perfect day:
My perfect day would be spending it all with a human and maybe a couple of dogs. I love my doggie pals, but my humans always come first. Playing chuck it with a tennis ball in the yard and going on a short walk would be great! Then I would love to snuggle up on a dog bed or the couch and watch movies with you!

What is your favorite toy?
Tennis balls are the best thing since sliced bread... but only when they are THROWN! Inside I really like wubbas, squeaky balls, and kongs!

Do you know any tricks?
I know how to sit, come when called, and I have been working really hard at learning to lie down. My foster mom is a trick dog trainer and has even got me trying to jump over her arms! I entertain her because I love working for food and with a human, so it's really not that bad.

What scares you?
I don't totally love the car. I am better about it when I am loose and can see what is going on even though I know this isn't always safest. I go to the vet for routine stuff, but I try to walk everywhere else when I go places!

Do you like cats?
I met one cat at Dr. Johnson’s office and it was kind of hard to tell what I thought. While I don’t have a ton of experience with cats, my foster mom thinks I could be okay with them.

Do you have any doggie best friends?
Yes, all of them! My foster mom has dozens and dozens of dogs come to our house - I have probably met at least 300 different dogs and I have been amazing with every single one of them, from a tiny Maltese (those look like rabbits, you know!?) to giant Great Danes (who are totally macho and scary to sme dogs!).

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?
On the couch, next to a person, with a nice antler!

How is your health?
I'm good to go! EC got me all fixed up with a spay and hernia repair, and I'm healthy as could be!

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
I live with a nice young lady and about 15 other dogs. My favorites are the big puppies that can wrestle and love to play, but the Frenchie is cute and likes to get me to chase him! When no one wants to play, I am totally content hanging out with my human instead.

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?
I have this really cool crate that I spend my time in when I can't be supervised. I feel safe in my crate and don’t mind laying in there until someone comes home to play with me! I also eat all of my meals in the crate so that I can associate it with a safe and positive place. I am silent in my crate, which my foster mom appreciates when she is trying to sleep.

Where do you sleep?
I spend my nights dreaming away in my crate. It helps me settle down and get a good night of sleep!

What do you love about your foster family?
I love that my mind and body are challenged enough to keep me from being bored, and that there is always a new challenge or friend waiting to tackle!

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?
Before being rescued, I was part of a dog fighting operation, but I'm not sure where. I was moved to an ASPCA shelter in OH while my court case played out. Then that nice lady Jessi came and rescued me and brought me back to St. Louis where I live now!

Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they grow up. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for you and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
