My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Veronica came to us a few days before Christmas, she had originally been found as a stray in Oklahoma and was transferred to a shelter in Illinois in October. She did well with the hubbub of the holidays, people in and out and learning a new routine. She loves people and hasn’t met a stranger, her tail wags the minute she sees a new person.

Veronica is heartworm positive, so the first step was to visit the vet and get some bloodwork done and some advice on treatment options. Her bloodwork came back fine, our vet feels that she is probably closer to 10 years old. She’s has a bit of arthritis in her left elbow but otherwise is very mobile. Her heartworm treatment will consist of a topical applied at 2 week intervals which should kill the heartworms within a 6 month period. During this treatment she does not have to have her activity restricted which would actually not be a problem for Veronica. She knows how to take it easy!

Veronica loves her walks out here in the country, lots of new smells and things to see. She walks very politely on a leash. She is completely housebroken, is not destructive and her favorite place is in her crate or by our side. We have not heard her bark or whine, not even once. She is not a fan of toys although she will occasionally push an empty water bottle around, we think she likes the sound. Veronica would be fine with most dogs but would probably prefer to have all the attention to herself.
