My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Skittles is a beautiful tricolor Aussie / Border Collie mix who is just one year old and weighs just 27 lbs. She spent her whole life living in an outside pen with little human contact so she is scared and shy. Skittles is housetrained in her foster home but will need transitional housetraining as she adjusts to a new home. She is great with cats and absolutely loves the company of other dogs. She has never met a dog that she didn't like because she is extremely submissive. We will be picky about who adopts Skittles because she is a sensitive girl who needs a very specific kind of home. Skittles will need to have another dog to help her feel safe and learn routines. Skittles is curious about calm children and would probably be ok with a calm older child. Definitely no small children though. She loves to go for walks or runs on a leash. Skittles is available for adoption now. Her adoption fee is $200. She is very gentle and does not ever bite even if she is scared. She comes with an escape proof harness, collar, leash and medical records. She is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up to date on shots, deworming, flea and heartworm prevention. She is learning to like petting but is not a cuddly dog.

Skittles is an escape artist and a flight risk. She can dig out of a chain link fence in seconds and is nearly impossible to catch if she gets loose. Skittles will absolutely have to be on a leash at all times that she is not in the house for her safety since she is prone to running in front of cars without looking when scared. She doesn't know how to play with toys or other dogs. She is particularly scared of men so she would do best in a home with at least one woman in the family. Skittles needs an owner that is very gentle, patient and confident. She would do best with another dog who is confident and friendly who can show her that people can be trusted.

Please keep in mind that Skittles has been abused and she always runs out of the room if she sees a person carrying anything in their hands. She is not a typical Border Collie at all. She is low energy, does not herd, does not play with toys and does not need a job to do. She just needs a home where she can learn to feel safe and live more like a normal dog.

She would not do well in an apartment and will not be adopted to any home that is not willing to keep her on a leash at all times for her safety. If you are interested in adopting Skittles please email healingheartsrescue@hotmail.com. We do NOT accept phone calls and our voice mail often does not work so please be respectful and use email.
