My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted in fL

We have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other great dogs. Thank you!

4/2/19 Update: Sweet Bruce and Stella are half way through their heartworm treatment and they are doing fine! Wow, will they be happy to be finished with it! They want to get on with their lives and spend time with people and their toys. They are characters and make the vet staff smile every day. Each morning they are waiting at their kennel doors holding their Kong toys in their mouths as if to say, “Fill these up, please!” Bruce and Stella are typical happy, loving Goldens who are well behaved and, being young seniors, they do not need basic training, they don’t jump or chew, they don’t require any special medications, and they simply long to be included with their people. They will be ready for their home in early May so please give them a chance and ask about this lovely, deserving pair.

Their Story: Looking into the trusting faces of Bruce and Stella, you wonder how anyone could ever have abandoned them. But that is exactly what happened to them in southern Alabama. A Good Samaritan found them wandering alone and took them home for a month before bringing them to the Mobile County Shelter. Now Sunshine dogs, they are being cared for and will be ready for their forever home together in early May.

Bruce and Stella are both 8-year old purebred Goldens, both weighing 78 lbs. Bruce is a light blonde boy and Stella is a rich gold color. They will grab your heart in a split second! They are active, typical Goldens who are good with children and love any attention. They are well mannered, and Bruce is a toy fanatic, loving his stuffies and carrying them around. Stella also likes them but if you hold out a treat, she drops her stuffie like a hot potato!

Bruce and Stella are bonded to each other and we promised them they will stay together, as they have had enough hardship in their lives. It appears they have not had easy lives as their teeth are worn down, with some broken. They came to us with mild ear infections, and both tested heartworm positive. They have been spayed/neutered and micro-chipped, their ears have been treated, and they are currently completing their heartworm treatment.

With good nutrition and the TLC they have already begun, Bruce and Stella will be stunning and will turn heads wherever they go! They are classic, loving Goldens who deserve all the best things a dog should know. If you would like to give Bruce and Stella the life they deserve,

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun.

If you would like to be part of Bruce and Stella's rescue story, and you have already been approved for adoption through SGRR, please contact the Adoption Committee to be considered to adopt Bruce and Stella.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

SGRR Adoption Fees (subject to change)
Puppies under 6 months $650
Young dogs 6 months - 6 years $550
Young dogs - Special Needs $450
Senior dogs 7 - 9 years $450
Seniors dogs 10 years and older $350
Senior dogs - Special Needs $300
Young Bonded Pairs $850
Senior Bonded Pairs $750

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
