DEXTER DOLITTLE (ARKANSAS)
Dexter DoLittle is a 2-year-old, 4.6-pound Shorkie (Shihtzu-Yorkie Mix) being fostered in Bryant, AR.
Meet Dexter Doodle. Dexter comes to UYR from owners who were unable to care for him. Dexter came to us in a pretty neglected state. He was infested with fleas, and was pretty badly matted. We have cut most of the mats out but he will have a professional grooming soon. Dexter has a large bare spot on his back and lots of scabs on his skin which is very flaky and scaly. The Vet suspects possible ringworm so a skin scraping was taken and that has been sent out for testing. He has several retained baby teeth that will need to be extracted and he has not been neutered.
Dexter has lots of stuff in the plus column besides being adorable and having big beautiful, expressive eyes. He is very sweet and loves everyone. He loves to sit close to you on the couch and snuggle. He is young and playful and is wild about squeaky toys. He is also not a big barker and will correct very easily.
Dexter has always been an only dog but he seems interested in the other dogs in his foster home and the ones he met at the Vet’s office. We think Dexter would do best in a home with an active owner, no children and perhaps one other small dog. He does not appear to be house-trained so someone with the patience to help him learn this important skill is important. We don't think Dexter has spent much time outside because he seems scared when taken out and does not seem to understand about leash walking. He will also require regular grooming.
