My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LILY MAE (GEORGIA)
Lily Mae is an adorable 8-year-old, 11.5 pound Yorkie DIVA being fostered in Hiawasee, GA.
IF you look up the word “diva”, it SHOULD show Lily Mae’s picture! MOVE OVER Beyoncé, Barbara, Celine, and Mariah!!!! Lily Mae IS IN THE HOUSE! Before coming to UYR Lily pretty much “owned” her older human. As an only pet who was completely worshipped by her person, she was allowed to do just about anything she wanted (or not), eat human food and rule her roost. As a consequence Lily became obese, developed skin issues and also some behavioral challenges. Lily didn’t know this up front but when she came to her UYR foster home there were to be some BIG CHANGES in store. Suddenly Lily was placed into an environment where there were multiple other dogs to “put up with” and a human pack leader in charge! “The very nerve!” thought Lily. She did not like or appreciate the newly imposed structure and competition for attention. Lily spent lots of time protesting by pouting in her crate and ignoring all the other dogs. She further protested by playing the “aloof Diva” with her foster parents. If pushed, Lily would occasionally cop an attitude, turn snarly and show her teeth. But this wasn’t foster Mom’s first rodeo and she did not give in to Lily’s bossy demeanor. As a consequence, after several weeks in her foster home Lily Mae is FINALLY acknowledging that foster Mom is the WINNER in the battle of wills and is beginning to give love and lap time.
We have gotten Lily’s skin issues under control with a healthy diet and medicated shampoos. She has also lost .6 of a pound and is on her way to a healthy weight of 9-10 pounds. Lily was found to have low thyroid levels and she now takes medication for that which will also help her shed pounds. She LOVES going for walks and foster Mom is making sure she gets plenty of them as this will help Lily attain her healthy weight. Lily also has decreased tear production so she is receiving daily eye drops. She will likely need to be on thyroid medication and eye drops for life. Lily just had her teeth cleaned and now that her minor issues are addressed she is ready to start the search for her forever home.
Lily’s perfect forever person needs to have ALL of the following:
-Experience with “diva dogs” and can be a strong pack leader
-Have lots of patience and enough self discipline to not “cave” when Lily acts out or wants human food
-Be active enough to see that Lily gets frequent walks or exercise
-Have no children in the home
-Have no other pets OR no more than one other pet who is relaxed and not an alpha dog
-Is committed to Lily’s care for the long haul including her diet, and administering thyroid medicine and eye drops.
Lily is an adorably cute, chubby, funny AND sweet little dog (once she gets comfortable with you) and she will be a great companion to the right person. If you think that person is YOU, then apply to adopt Lily or email her foster Mom for additional information at equusjojo@aol.com
