My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

California - Sacramento
Age: 4-5 yrs.

Hi, Everyone. I've been here a long time, and Mommy told me that I have to write a new bio for myself because all the information that was written about me has changed.

My name is the same, Miss Mimi Louise Bassette. When I came from the shelter, they said I was an older dog, but Mommy could tell that wasn't true. I was a younger dog with a lot of health issues. The doctor confirmed this. I became very sick not too long after I got here. I even stopped eating, and I have to be really sick to do that because I love to eat. Mommy took me to the doctor, and it was discovered that I had a diaphragmatic hernia. That's a rupture of the membrane between the abdomen and the diaphragm. Almost all of my organs that belonged in my abdomen were up in my diaphragm. I had surgery, the hernia was repaired, and all my organs were put back exactly where they belong. I almost died after the surgery. I didn't eat for about a week. Finally, they sent me home because there was nothing more to be done for me. Mommy cooked me some chicken, and I started eating again. Now I'll eat anything I can get my large jaws around.

You can't imagine what it was like going through life with all your organs in the wrong place and how much better you feel once they are in the right place. All of the various health issues I had were because of this. Put me back together right, and I'm a healthy dog now. I still have the arthritis in the back knees, but I'm on Glucosamine, so even that has improved. I walk stiff-legged because of the arthritis, but I get around just fine.

Mommy said I also had to tell you that I'm a typical stubborn basset hound. I'm just true to my breed. I'm a very loving girl who's looking for someone who will return that love to me. Once I get to know you, I can be a real character. I keep Mommy guessing about what I'm going to do next.

If you feel you have what it takes to go through life with a basset hound, please contact my foster mom, Suzy, to learn more about me.
