The most adorable Murphy! Please read the entire bio before submitting an application found on our website: www.hearts4doxiesrescue.org (Please note: a cellphone is not compatible). Must be 25 years and older.
Murphy is an energetic "all hound" dachshund/beagle x who loves to use his nose!! He is a great dog who responds to positive force free training methods and needs gentle leadership. His past life was not kind, failed him miserably which instilled mistrust, fear and protectiveness, and therefore, Murphy requires stability, consistency, understanding, patience and time to adjust. He does not respond to being "pushed" into situations that he is not ready for! He warms up easier to females and is more guarded with males. Building his confidence, having a trusting foundation and allowing him to be your forever best friend on his time are all key ingredients for Murphy and his family to be successful. He has a goofy side and a serious side - he loves the outdoors and definitely wants an active best friend! Physical and mental stimulation on walks, hikes, beaches and parks are Murphy's happy place! He loves all dogs big and small but can get overbearing.
Murphy is very smart, sometimes too smart for his own good! He is crate, potty and leash trained, rides beautifully in the car, loves his squeaky toys (he can de-stuff in seconds) and sleeping in the big bed! He is very treat motivated and can help himself to whatever is left out! We highly recommend attending a basic dog training class to build and strengthen the bond.
Murphy's best home requirements are as follows:
- A secured fenced yard
- Breed specific knowledge
- Prior dog ownership experience
- Another dog companionship similar in age/energy/activity level
- Home at least part-time, works from home; full-time work week must have a doggy walker/doggy day care in place
- Active/Outdoors
- Adult only home
- No small critters
- Home ownership of 15+ years
