My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are interested in SNIPER or in adopting a pup in general, the first step is an adoption application. Download an adoption application here
Please email the completed application to chanda.woofriver@gmail.com
Please submit an application rather than an inquiry with no application attached.

Hey there! I'm SNIPER and I am a really nice guy. I am totally house trained, adore car rides, and always on my best behavior in public places. I've been told I'm exceptional with other dogs. I don't know that that means, but I do know that all dogs are my friends. I like big dogs, tiny dogs, puppies, old dogs, playful dogs, calm dogs, and everything in between.
I politely greet guests and know not to jump up to say hello. I love my foster family and am not embarrassed to admit that I'm a very affectionate guy. My foster home has many different people and dogs coming and going frequently. I enjoy meeting all the different visitors but would be just as happy in a quiet home without tons of excitement. I really just want to be an endlessly loyal adoring companion to my forever family for the rest of my life. I promise I will make you happy every single day!

From SNIPER's foster mom: I have owned 7 German Shepherds and worked with countless other over the years in rescue. SNIPER is hands down one the top 3 most amazing shepherds I have ever met! He will lay on his dog bed all day while I work in my home office or have a rainy Netflix day. That being said he has plenty of energy to leap off the top step of my deck, play with puppies, or go for a nice long walk. He is literally the perfect dog because he has the manners of an elder statesman and the same ability to relax but has the pep in his step and smile on his face of a 2 year old. This dog is also STUNNING! Everywhere he goes people are drawn to him and rave about how breathtaking he is. SNIPER has the most unbelievably kind eyes and is appreciative of every caring word or head scratch. He has an uncanny ability with other dogs that you are lucky to come across once in a lifetime.

He doesn't currently live with cats, but I feel strongly he will do very well with them. He is flawless with tiny dogs (he has spent time with dogs as small as 3lbs) and could care less about birds or squirrels. We are more than happy to introduce SNIPER to kitties if the perfect applicant has feline family members.

This 8 year old sweetheart is special beyond words. Whoever is lucky enough to have him join their family forever will have a full heart and be thankful every single day!!!

SNIPER is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations including 2 rounds of both the H3N2 and H3N8 canine influenza vaccinations. He also had a full senior blood panel (results are all great), xrays (everything normal or better for his age), and is negative for pancreatic enzyme defficiency.
His $340 adoption fee includes the cost of transport to Nashville after he is officially adopted.

We aren't sure if 8 years old makes him an adult or a senior so we are listing him as both.

Four photos aren't nearly enough of this heart throb. To seen more photos and videos, copy and paste the following link in your browser: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jikqw7ujfzbrmjy/AAApq6vBwY5mmVy_2RmozoS1a?dl=0

All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Alpha Dog Pet Transport for our New England, Nashville, and Knoxville adoptions (https://alphadogtransport.com) and our own private transport for our Midwest adopters.

Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff.

Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding.
