My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Ziggy.. She is a 2 year old, 14 pound, Italian Greyhound. The IG people call her a "biggie Iggy" as she is not the typical small size. BUT, Ziggy is a gentle, sweet girl with a fun, spunky attitude. She is crate trained and house trained. Ziggy walks on a leash but a straight line is just not her thing. She is fine in the car.

Ziggy came to us from a hoarding case where all the dogs were confiscated. After never being outside in her previous life, she can’t get enough of it! She RACES around the yard and loves to have an audience when doing it. She will need a securely fenced area to enjoy her outside time.

Ziggy does like a routine. This is possibly from the fact that she lived in a home that was uninhabitable so the owner would show up randomly to fed and water. Knowing what to expect helps her to feel secure and happy.

Ziggy's past has not hampered this girl's outlook on life. She never met a dog that she didn't like and loves cats. For her foster mom she is a total love but children seem to unnerve her and she is timid when first meeting adults although she will gladly show off her running skills and toy playing for new people. Ziggy does warm up given a little time. We feel that a few meet and greets would work best for Ziggy to transfer well. Ziggy is an affectionate, happy little dog that will continue to blossom as she gets further and further from her past.

Ziggy's adoption will require a securely fenced yard that leads directly into the home that is large enough for an IG's zoom zooms. Someone who is not working away from home a typical 8 hour work day; someone that works very part time, someone that works from home and can have their dog in their work space or someone who is retired. Ziggy will need another well socialized dog in the home that she can emulate. She needs a home without children and with someone who has the time and desire to spend with this adorable dog. She is young so she will need a semi active home where she can go on walks and be out and about with her owners. Ziggy's home will need to continue her natural care program. We will work to place Ziggy within a 30 minute drive from Columbus OH so there can be several meet and greets and we can conduct a home visit bringing Ziggy with us.

Star-Mar Rescue is a natural care provider and we place our dogs in homes that are already on a natural care program or are eager to learn. We use no chemicals on our dogs, no commercial flea products (oral or topical), do blood titer testing instead of randomly vaccinating. Our yards are without fertilizer and weed killer and our homes are toxin free. We feel that dogs can be protected without being harmed by harsh chemicals and unnecessary vaccinations and do best on a species appropriate, no grain, raw diet. Frozen raw diets, freeze dried or dehydrated no grain. Raw, no grain foods are easily gotten at many pet stores and on line and are no more expensive than a high quality dry food. This simple step will provide your dog the nutrition needed to keep them healthy and happy for many years unlike feeding a lifetime of processed foods. We are happy to help with this transition. For more information go to Star-Mar Rescue Natural Care facebook page and click on "videos" in the column to the left and watch the 7 part series called The Truth About Pet Cancer. It will give you an understanding of what we are doing and why. Please do some research on natural care and raw feeding and decide whether or not you are wanting to care for Ziggy in this manner before requesting an application.

If you feel that your lifestyle and environment meet with Ziggy's needs, please directly contact Martha at learymjri@aol.com or call 330-466-3667 or 330-262-0515 for an application or more information. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE LINK PROVIDED AS IT IS NOT ALWAYS RELIABLE. Ziggy's adoption will require an approved application and a home visit, with adoption completed at her foster home in Columbus, OH. Ziggy's adoption fee is $300.
