My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jessie is the cutest, silliest, most lively pup around. She will make you laugh with her zoomies, her love of play time, and how she tries to catch flies outside. She loves a good cuddle and getting belly rubs. A super curious pup, her freckly snoot only makes it even more endearing when she does her adorable head tilts.

Jessie has a very sweet nature and is a true cuddlebug at heart, but she is scared of humans, especially men. She’s very alert and anxious when she hears human voices. She is very scared when she hears children, so she hasn´t been tested around them yet. She’s also scared of garage doors or motorized gates opening/closing. As a result, she can be hard to convince to leave the house for long walks, so she needs some time to get used to the idea first. However, her foster mama says she was recently enticed out by a puppy and approached the owner with her tail wagging and even gave a couple of licks! She also warmed up to all the people of the house within 15 minutes.

Jessie is usually not left home alone for more than a couple hours, but is crated if no one can keep an eye on her. She doesn’t love the crate, and may yelp and cry when left in it, but usually settles down after a few minutes.

Jessie is very sweet…. and a little mischievous. She has a bad habit of chewing and pulling on her leash, especially when she doesn’t want to leave the house. She chews on other things too, so always make sure she has her toys to gnaw on instead! Jessie loves a good chew, so any toy she can run after/catch and chew on is good with her. She's just learnt to fetch with her extra strong tennis ball, and a frozen Kong keeps her occupied and relaxed. When she’s calm, she’ll happily sit by the sofa and keep your feet warm. (She might try to jump on said sofa, but a firm “off” usually makes her get down.) Sometimes, she can get a little too excited/playful/rough and may nip hands or clothes. And if there’s any food, she’ll probably go for it. (But who wouldn’t, amirite?) Jessie is just 10 months and, like any kid, is still learning boundaries.

Jessie has not shown any signs of aggression. When frightened, she will try to bolt or refuse to move. Polite and friendly to other dogs, Jessie adores other doggos.. Sometimes a dog walking by is the only thing that will bring her out from underneath a bush. She also seems to enjoy car rides, and even lies down and naps.

Inside the house, where she feels safe, she has good recall. She recently learned ¨sit¨, but will only listen in non-distracting environments. Though she needs work with recall outside the home, she is quick and willing to learn.

The best home for this Jessie would be a detached house with a fenced backyard where she can run free (and potty without her leash on). Jessie has already shown signs of improving with her fears, but she would benefit from a more patient/experienced owner who is able to work with her to overcome her fears and let her bubbly, adorable personality truly shine.
