My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Jeff, a one year old tri color mixed breed weighing 38 pounds. Jeff strayed into someone's back yard in West Virginia with a very injured leg. They realized they he needed help they could not afford and called the shelter. Unfortunately his leg could not be saved and needed to be amputated. Post surgery Jeff rehabbed with at a wonderful foster home. A big thank you to this family who were the bridge to help Jeff get to a better life! Here is a little snippet of Jeff's life in his foster home.

"Jeff is a happy, high energy pup, and he is all puppy! He loves to rough and tumble with his Tripod sister constantly whether inside or out. He loves to play “punch and run” or “poke and chase” with his foster siblings. If he has any unwanted behavior he takes correction very well with a squirt of water to a paw or a shake of a jar of pennies. He is what is called a “greeter” dog; always the first to say hello to a new pup and feel out their “vibes”. If they don’t want to play, he is done with them. He gets along with dogs from 14lbs to 95lbs and has taken correction well from all of them. He did recently not heed the warning of an 85lb husky/lab mix that he had rough and tumbled with on a daily basis since in foster.

Jeff knows his name and will come when called or corrected. “Enough” is his command to quit what he is doing being it barking or annoying another dog. “Hurry up” is his command to go to the bathroom. “Outside” is his command to go out on the porch at his foster home. “Go” is his command to proceed down the stairs to the backyard or move away from his foster mom. “Get back” is his command to move back away from his foster mom’s door. He is beginning to fetch balls; in fact, he loves balls of all kinds and bones too. He will play tug of war with a toy with other dogs willing to join in. He can be vocal when he wants to be engaged in play with other pups and sounds like he is growling but he is talking, not being aggressive. He has never demonstrated any aggression towards another dog or human. In fact, he LOVES all humans though he has not been around children. He can be somewhat of a Velcro dog at times and is more interested in getting love from his human than eating. He loves to lay on his foster mom’s lap in the evening, snuggling while he is scratched and rubbed until he falls asleep. He enjoys car rides and does well on a leash with a halter. If he is on leash with a collar he will sometimes twist and turn to try to get it off. Jeff would be best suited to a family with another high energy dog that likes to play and/or an active individual or family that can expend his energy with active play and running. "

Jeff arrived at PWD this past weekend, and has continued to a happy, energetic pup that wants to please! He has help a very shy dog come out of her shell! He is very smart and loves people and other dogs. Life on 3 legs has not slowed him down one bit, he races around the rescue yard several times a day with his new gal pal! Jeff has transitioned great into life at PWD, as he waits patiently for his family to come for him!
