Meet Ava. Ava is a 2.5 year old Shepherd Mix weighing 55 lbs. Ava is shy around humans at first, but loves pets and scratches so much that she overcomes her hesitations just to get pets. She can be skittish in new circumstances and jumpy around new noises. However, once she becomes used to things, she does very well. She will need a patient owner who can help her gain trust and confidence. Ava has a sweet personality and she swings and wiggles her entire backside when she wags. She has an ear to ear grin when she smiles. She doesn’t love the water, but tolerates the waves at the beach. She doesn’t fetch but loves to chew on hard bones and her toys. Ava was afraid of the car at first but has become better and better traveling around in the car and now jumps right in the back. Ava does not have any food or dog aggression and does not have separation anxiety. She likes to meet other dogs, but doesn’t usually initiate the play. She is more concerned about scoping out things. She does not appear to have a prey drive so she could be compatible in a home with cats (untested, but signs are favorable). Ava would do well in a home with older kids. She may be frightened of the energy and noise with younger kids. Ava would be a great companion dog because she loves to be with you but doesn’t smother. She isn’t a big kisser but once in a while will come by and give a single gentle lick on your hand. Ava has good house manners and is potty trained.
