My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Stella is 4 1/2 years of age (DOB:10/11/18). Stella is Labrador/Pit mix. She was an owner surrender, and stated that Stella seems to have separation anxiety and shouldn't be left alone.  Shella can be a bit destructive when all alone as she finds things to do that she shouldn't. Stella is friendly, so mellow and calm; such a gentle dog.  She is housebroken, leash trained and good with other dogs. Stella prefers older children and adults.  She can jump some fences, so will need a good, tall, secure fence when spending any time out of doors.  Stella is a black beauty and loves attention. For treats, Stella loves cheese and hot dogs.  She also likes going for walks, and car rides.  Stella has been at our shelter awhile and really needs a 'forever' home.  If you come to see Stella, do ask someone to get her out of the kennel so you can see how gentle and well behaved she is.  Amarillo SPCA location is 11901 S. Coulter. Open Tues.-Sat. from 12 to 5 p.m. Phone: 806-622-0555.

More about this shelter

The Amarillo SPCA is a 501(c)3 non profit organization. We operate solely on donations and fundraisers.

Presently, we operate a shelter for dogs and cats. We have approximately 100 animals housed at the shelter and in foster care.

One of our main concerns is pet over population. It is important that the public be educated about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. It is also our goal to make sure every animal that is adopted from the SPCA is sterilized before going to a new home.

We receive calls daily from people who request help with their animals--either needing to give them up or asking for help with food and medical needs. We help whenever we can, but financially we're not able to help often.

We have grown to the extent that volunteers alone cannot provide necessary hours for operating the kennels. We have a shelter manager and other part time employees for the care of the animals and maintenance of our facility.

Costs for our facility include payroll for these employees, good quality food for the animals, heat and air conditioning, medical treatment for sickness or injury. Additional costs for the animals always include vaccinations, deworming, microchipping and sterilization before leaving the shelter to go to new homes. Our vet bills are high and frequently expenses are far more than the adoption fee of $100. Therefore donations are hugely appreciated! We look forward to your contribution and particularly to your interest in one of our dogs or cats as a permanent companion.

Thanks so much, Amarillo SPCA
