Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Adorable Enana, Spanish for "Runt", was flown to us from California. This poor angel had been spending every week at the vet with body shakes, seizures, throwing up and high bile acids. There was suspicion of liver shunt and her owner was just not financially able to care for her, so they reached out to us. We immediately worked up a veterinary plan and flew her to her foster mom, who has prior shunt knowledge, in Texas.
This sick little 5 to 6 lb angel arrived and after extensive testing a visible liver shunt was ruled out from the scintigraphy, but her GI showed inflammation and her gallbladder and liver were questionable. She underwent exploratory surgery and it was evident that her gallbladder needed an immediate removal. Various biopsies of her liver and GI tract were performed to get answers regarding Enana's illness. Biopsies showed Enana's little body suffers from micro-vascular dysplasia. The presence of multi-focal closely apposed portal areas, miniaturized portal areas, and distorted profiles in a few portal areas meant that Enana has micro-shunts plus a bad gallbladder (now removed). This left her body not being able to process or filter blood properly. Along with the micro shunts, she also suffers from inflammatory bowel disease. This type of disease affects her ability to process protein so she requires a special diet. She suffers with re-flux and still has issues with vomiting occasionally but it is on a rare occasion now..
Although there is no more surgical cure for Enana, she will just require medications to protect her liver and her GI for the rest of her life. I would also like to add she may also need yearly xrays or bloodwork to follow up on her progress. The medications are not very expensive and the yearly physical should be fairly easy to manage as well. Enana has come such a long way from 9 meds to 3 and with good care she should live a great long life just like all normal yorkies.
Enana is such a happy l'il Diva who loves to be the boss! She is VERY lovable and loves to sleep right by you in the bed at night. She loves going in the car and she never meets a stranger. She brings us laughter every day with her "yorkietude". Poor baby, she does not like dogs 😬, but the pack in my home and her have learned that she prefers to be left alone or to be the center of attention so they let her. She is not a fighter at all, just a grumpy mess around the pack. She absolutely adores children and has no issues with cats either. Enana's purfect home would be one that is where she is the center of "her" world, HAHA, with no other dogs.
