My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area.

NAME: Dory
GENDER: Female (Spayed)
AGE: About 1 year
WEIGHT: About 6 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Gets along with other small dogs, Unknown with cats
CHILDREN: Should be fine with children 5 and older

Introducing Dory. Dory has a sweet disposition and an adorable look. We love her floppy ears and the way she tilts her head when you talk to her. Her foster family says she is one of the best Chihuahuas they have ever fostered! Someone is about to hit the jackpot!

Dory was found as a stray in the Dallas area. DAS tried to find her family and when no one stepped up, they reached out to us. We were happy to bring her into our program. She is such a great little lady!

Dory is young and playful. She loves the other small dogs in her foster home. She immediately fit into the pack. Dory wants to be friends with everyone, and will passively step back, assess her role, and then slide right in. She does not have to be the alpha! Dory hangs around with all the dogs and loves to play and wrestle. Dory also loves toys. She entertains herself with the multiple toy options around the house. Dory also loves going outside and sunning herself.

Dory also loves her human family. She is a little shy when she meets new people, sometimes reverting to her street dog ways to step away from them and evaluate them. But once she knows she is safe, she happily interacts. We think this cautious behavior is from her street days (she most likely had to be cautious of everything). But she is a friendly dog (she has never snapped or been aggressive). One interesting thing – Dory ADORES her foster Dad. She loves both her foster parents, but there is a special bond there with her Daddy!

Dory is super smart. She wants to please you and make you happy. When she figures out what you want her to do, she is quick to react. We have already taught her to “sit” and to “lay down”. We are working on more commands with her.

Dory is about 1 year old. She weighs a perfect 6 pounds. Dory has light tan coloring. As we mentioned earlier, we love those floppy ears. She is very quiet. She will bark when someone comes to the door, but is quiet the majority of the time. She eats in her crate, and will wait her turn when it is time to eat.

Because of her young age and playfulness, we think Dory would do best in a home with another small dog. She really enjoys the interaction, and may be too lonely being an only dog. She loves people of all ages and would make a great family dog. We think she would really enjoy having fun with human children! We also believe Dory would do best in a home with a secure yard, as she enjoys going outside to explore.

Dory is potty trained. She is also crate trained. Her foster family says that she has adjusted very easily and fits so well in to their family. Whoever adopts her is going to hit the jackpot.

Dory is being fostered in the DFW (Texas) area. If this sweet girl sounds like the right fit for your home, our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/

Dory is spayed, is micro chipped, up-to-date on shots, HW negative and on heartworm prevention. She is ready to join a loving family – could that family be yours?

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $250 adoption fee plus Texas Sales Tax required (note: as of 1-1-20, the Texas State Comptroller office is requiring all rescue groups to collect sales tax on adoptions, even though we are all 501c3. We are all fighting this, but for now, have been told it is non-negotiable).

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
