My story

***Not available for adoption to NYC residents***

Rosie is a young ball python who was surrendered by her previous family to the city shelter. Given the shelter's minimal experience with reptiles, we immediately took Rosie into our care. These snakes are docile and calm but they do require specialized care, including appropriate temperature and humidity to maintain optimal health. We ask that anyone interested in adopting a reptile or amphibian do their research to ensure that they are properly prepared and able to care for one of these magnificent creatures.

Ball pythons have this name because when nervous, they curl into a ball. Rosie was not the least nervous when arriving, and immediately proceeded to explore her foster mom's arms and then her enclosure. Satisfied with what she found, she curled up inside her cave for a nap. Rosie is now ready for her new life to begin, with responsible guardians who will appreciate her for the wonderful being that she is. Rosie is estimated to be 2 years old, and currently measures 2.5 feet in length. She would be suitable for a home with experienced or beginner adopters willing to learn about proper care.

Given that constrictors are not legal to keep in NYC, Rosie is only available to homes outside of the city. If interested, email adopt@emptycagescollective.org
