My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are interested in BERNIE or in adopting a pup in general, the first step is an adoption application. Download an adoption application here
Please email the completed application to sarabeth.woofriver@gmail.com
Please submit an application rather than an inquiry with no application attached.

You know that thing that happens to old men when their eyebrow, nose, and ear hair grows incessantly like a chia pet? BERNIE is that thing manifested in dog-form, only he’s a sprightly young man full of vigor. His foster mom says BERNIE is Intelligent, Energetic, Lively, Assertive, Funny, Loves his people (children included), and Loyal. She says he thoroughly enjoys his hikes on a daily basis and thinks car rides are the coolest! He would be the best jogging partner ever and most definitely requires an owner who wants to take him fun places and let him exercise in addition to snuggling on the sofa.

BERNIE loves to be loved so he will happily curl up with you during marathons of Murder She Wrote or prance through the neighborhood with you walking or jogging. Bernie plays hard and lives life big. He’s especially keen on belly rubs -- from anyone, anywhere, anytime. BERNIE is the perfect addition to any household.

BERNIE shares a foster home with 2 large seniors, a large young adult, and a young small dog. He gets along fabulously with everyone! He has also met at least 20 other pups with whom he became fast friends. Even though BERNIE can share a home with any dog under the sun, we think he would also do just fine as an only pup who can soak up all the attention from his forever family himself. BERNIE is completely house-trained and a joy to share a home with. He follows his foster mom everywhere "helping" her with chores. He also loves exploring the back yard for squirrels and trips to the dog park. In addition to being tons of fun, have we stated the obvious here and talked about his traffic stopping good looks?

If you’re a fan of Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs, we think you’ll enjoy BERNIE's aesthetic. Who needs a claymation figurine when you can adopt the living, breathing, loving version right now? Apply today to make Bernie a part of your family! He will make your heart full and keep a smile on your face for years to come.

We will not consider first time dog owners for BERNIE. Since he is a large, intelligent, active dog, we feel it is important his forever home has experience with a similar pup.

BERNIE is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations.
His $490 adoption fee includes his interstate health certificate and the cost of transport to the Midwest after he is officially adopted.

Please email the completed application to sarahbeth.woofriver@gmail.com. It typically takes us around 5 BUSINESS DAYS to process an application. We will reach out to you as soon as your application is processed. Thank you in advance for your patience.

All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Alpha Dog Pet Transport for our Nashville, Knoxville and some New England adoptions (https://alphadogtransport.com). We also use Pet Express Tupelo (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com/). For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport (https://www.facebook.com/roadhomepettransport).

Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff.

Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding.
