My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Muffin (a.k.a. the Divine Miss M) is believed to be a terrier/Schnauzer mix. She is approximately 2 years old, weighs about 14 lbs., and is cream colored with medium brown accents on her ears and snout. Muffin has stunning eyes and knows just how to melt your heart!

On the day she was scheduled to be euthanized in a Louisiana shelter, Muffin was rescued by a wonderful organization. She was relocated to Maine in May. Since then, she has been treated for heartworm and has lived with a loving foster family and their canine kids. Muffin will be spayed on August 19th. After recovering from surgery, and with her troubles behind her, this beautiful girl will be ready for her forever home!

Being a lap dog is Muffin’s biggest aspiration! She absolutely loves to be held and is used to being allowed on the couch to hang out with people. A nice daily walk will meet her exercise requirements since she is not a high-energy dog. Muffin initially had severe separation anxiety in her foster home. Over the past few months, however, the problem has reduced considerably and is manageable with routine, stability, and exercise in stressful times. Anyone adopting Muffin needs to be prepared to deal with such issues patiently while she adapts to life with a new family. Basic positive reinforcement obedience training will be helpful in establishing a trusting bond and good behaviors in her new home.

Muffin gets along fine with the other 5 dogs in her foster home and shows curiosity in cats but no aggression toward them. However, she is more interested in being with people than with other four-legged animals. She protects her food from other dogs but hasn’t shown the same tendency with people.

Muffin has typical terrier tendencies: she is protective of anyone she sits on and can be vocal about having her paws or ears touched when she doesn’t want you to. As a result, Muffin will be placed only in homes with no children or children over 10 years old who are knowledgeable and respectful of human/canine boundaries.

Muffin is an absolute delight and will be a great companion. Her perfect match will have experience with terriers or in positive reinforcement training.
