Understanding FIV Cats
FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency virus. It is similar to human HIV. FIV ONLY affects cats.
FIV is most commonly transmitted in a deep bit wound. It is rare for a mother cat to pass it along to her kittens. It cannot be passed through human or casual contact.
There are no proven treatments to rid a cat of FIV. Most FIV cats handle the disease well but it is important to treat any secondary illnesses that occur.
FIV cats can lead normal lives
The main misconception we hear is that FIV cats cannot live with non FIV cats. As long as the cats get along and do not fight they can live together.
FeLV and FIV Cats are often not given a chance to be adopted.
Our goal is to find homes for FeLV and FIV Cats

At FCHS, we commit to our animals; for this reason, all of our animals have a lifetime commitment from us. If an adoption does not work out, for any reason, we ask that all FCHS animals be returned to our facility.
