Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Yukon is a 95 lb. Malamute/Husky, about 7 years old. He was languishing in a local shelter when Dusty Paws Rescue pulled him into foster care. He has settled in nicely at his foster home and is very much enjoying the amenities - comfy places to sleep, access to a yard to play in, a canine playmate (foster sister Mazey), and humans who give him lots of attention and take him for daily walks.
Yukon's foster parents are very fond of him. They describe him as a gentle dog and a joy to have around. He loves being petted and massaged for as long as you're willing. He has not been crated and is free to roam around in the house, using the doggie door to let himself out to simply enjoy the back yard or to play with Mazey. (See video). Yukon will be happiest if the home includes a playmate close to his size and age. He is not a long distance walker; 20 minutes at a time is enough for him, especially on a warm day.
We stress that applicants for Yukon should be experienced dog owners, ideally familiar with the pros and cons of living with a Malamute mix. For instance, this breed is a heavy shedder. The big, lovable teddy bear can also be stubborn at times and may pull you off your feet if he sees a cat while out on a walk. He absolutely should not go to a home with a cat. Yukon may growl at strange dogs or people when they approach, but he loves visiting with members of his own foster family.
Yukon is neutered, micro-chipped, and vaccinated, and has had all necessary veterinary attention. He has an ongoing irritable bowel disorder which is managed with special food (at this time Royal Canin Digestive dry food) and a daily med. Since he is mightily attracted to human food, he must be prevented from counter surfing and garbage grabbing.
Yukon is a lovely dog waiting for just the right home. Suitable applicants can get more details from Yukon's foster family.
