When you share your adoption story with us, we’ll send you free deals on pet parent favorites like Greenies, Royal Canin, Whistle smart devices, Wisdom DNA tests, and more.
Her adoption is sponsored in memory of Carleen "Sue" Swartz
Velvet
4 years old
American Short Hair, Tabby
Dark grey, black, brown, tan, bits of white on chin and chest
Polydactyl
Spayed
Has basic vaccines: Rabies, FVRCP, FLV (current caretaker will provide a wellness check and any
vaccine updates prior to adoption)
NOT recommended for: a home with dogs, a large family with a busy household, or young
children (but would be fine with an older child who respects claws, and a cat’s need for space).
Would do best as a single pet, or with just one other kitty who is not aggressive or bossy.
The perfect home for Velvet would be with a gentle and understanding person, perhaps
someone who has had experience with making a stray or shy kitty feel at home.
Velvet is a true beauty, with distinct markings in a gorgeous palette of grey, black, brown, and
tan. She has a wee bit of white on chin and chest, and glorious green/gold eyes. She loves to
be petted and adored.
She is an extra special kitty because she is polydactyl – having extra toes on her front paws, like
“thumbs”. These types of cats were considered by sailors to be good luck, and are also known
as “mitten” cats. Ernest Hemingway was a huge fan of polydactyls, and shared his home with a
whole bunch of them.
A stray who stayed outdoors at first, Velvet has now been indoors about 3 years, and should
remain indoors.
She can be skittish, but is also curious and social, and likes attention. Once she is at ease, she
absolutely loves to be petted and brushed.
An elderly woman originally cared for Velvet, but then had to move to an assisted living
situation. This sweet kitty is hungry for human companionship with someone she can trust.
Velvet will need an unhurried adjustment period, with a quiet and private space to retreat to.
Once she feels secure, she will explore her new environment more and more. With gentle
attention, kindness, & patience, she will settle in and be a loving pet.
Velvet uses litter boxes, and has nice indoor manners. She likes to nap in the sunshine, curled
up in a cozy box with a blanket. She would love to have a forever home.
Adoption includes spay, vaccinations, felv/fiv combo test (neg). Delta and Velvet are on monthly, topical Revolution for parasite control. BOGO special applies to these 2, adopt one, get one!
Also included in the adoption is 30 days of Pet First Pet Insurance, and Petco's Free Welcome to the Family Program. This program supports All New Pet Parents and offers Free resources, more than $650 in savings and 24/7 support.
