My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Beast
Imagine that you are me, a 6.5-year-old male cat who has done nothing wrong. I have been surrendered to the HSHC three times, through no fault of my own. The first time I was here, my family had lost their home. The next time, my adopter let me escape, and I was brought in as a stray in November 2025. The medical staff felt that I had been hit by a car. I was treated for the spinal osteoarthritis and the difficulty I had with walking steadily, without falling over. My owner opted to surrender rather than claim me. The last ones to adopt me only kept me for 4 weeks because they couldn’t afford my medical care. Because I have had UTIs throughout my life, I have been placed on a special diet designed to alter my urine pH levels to reduce the risk of stone and crystal formation. These UTIs are extremely painful. My owners were not prepared to provide the C/D food for me. Living with them also meant that I had to get along with their resident cat. We had to share two litter boxes that were scooped maybe once a week. Because I love attention and affection, I think I was jealous whenever the other cat got attention and I didn’t. My last adopters felt their work schedule did not allow them to give me all the time I needed. So, on January 24, I was returned to the HSHC. Wouldn’t you feel down in the dumps? Wouldn’t your confidence plummet? The thing is, I am a very friendly, pleasant guy who enjoys being petted all over. I’m playful, too, and skilled at catching those feathered toys on fishing poles. I let the interviewer lady (IL) give me a good rubdown and purred up a storm. She told me my big golden eyes contrasted well with my ashy grey coat. I want to reach an agreement with my next owner that allows me to live with them for the rest of my life and for them to provide what I need to stay healthy. In return, I will love them, er, YOU with my whole heart. Oh, by the way, I think I deserve a new name with a more appealing connotation. Yeast is the only name I know that rhymes with Beast, so something completely different would be nice. 2-24-26

More about this shelter

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.

This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
