Meet Esther Elizabeth. She is FOR SURE a Hound Dog -including the digging and barking and snuggling! Once a tiny, very sick puppy, Esther (AKA “PupPup”) is now a healthy and growing hound pup. She’s gone from a 4 pounds, 5 week old baby with suspected ringworm (it was actually a very severe case of pyoderma) to a 21 pound, 16 week old juvenile. When we first rescued her, her hair would fall off in clumps every time you touched her. She maxed out at about 40% hair loss and has since grown it all back. Scars remain on her chest and legs and around her body where the infection was just so deep but they’re just a testament to her past and the resiliency it took to over come. At five weeks old, she was found in a drainage ditch. Cold, wet, COVERED in scabs and already missing a big portion of her hair, the shelter pleaded for a rescue to step in and help this sick, scared baby. We jumped at the chance!

In the time we have had her, we have watched her blossom into a confident and playful, social and loving dog. Esther will require a large yard with a minimum of 6’ fence. It will also need to be DIG PROOF. She will need a pack to join - not just another dog- and would love a mix of small and big, young and playful dogs. She plays with EVERY BODY and goes from one to the next wrestling and romping and then crashes in a heap. She adores children. She absolutely MUST sleep with you and wants to be touching you anytime you’re sitting in close proximity. She’s beyond sweet, loves being held when she’s sleepy, plays rough and tumble, runs like a cantering horse, jumps like she has springs in her legs, and barks.... a lot! PupPup even talks when she stretches, including while she’s sleeping! We adore this dog and tell her all the time she’s lucky she’s so incredibly adorable and sweet as pie since she also chews ... all the things.

Esther is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. Her adoption donation is only $300! As with all puppies adopted through Maxx & Me, her adopter will need to commit to continue working with a positive reinforcement trainer of their choice to help her continue to become a well mannered and confident girl.
