My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET GYPSY. Gypsy is a sweet little female yorkie who is 5-1/2 years old and weighs a chubby 14-1/2 lbs. Gypsy is blind but she does great. Gypsy is being fostered in Spring Hill, FL. Due to Covid-19 all dogs fostered in the state of Florida must be adopted within the State of Florida.

UPDATED BIO 01/17/2021: Gypsy has been in her foster home a little over 4 weeks now; she was sadly surrendered by her owner whom she had been with since a puppy, but who is no longer able to care for her. Gypsy has had a wonderful life with her owner and was very loved and cared-for in her home. She has settled in very nicely in her foster home. She sleeps in her bed all night long with her little blankie. She only gets up to use her pee-pee pads what a smart little girlie. When Gypsy wakes up in the morning, she will put her paws on her foster parents bed to let them know that shes awake.

Gypsy is a very sweet and gentle little girl. She began having some eye issues a couple of years ago and a positive ANA test (antinuclear antibody) was done it was determined only her eyes were affected by an undetermined autoimmune response, and now Gypsy is now completely blind. She also has dry eye syndrome which will require eyedrops for the rest of her life. Gypsy has been under the care of a doggie ophthalmologist, and will have a follow-up on 02/01 to ensure that the autoimmune response has run its course and she no longer needs the RX drops for inflammation and will only need drops for dry eye syndrome. Gypsy takes her pills and eyedrops with no problems whatsoever. She is also seeing the vet on 01/20 for an evaluation of her luxating patella, so stay tuned for the results of her visit.

Gypsys favorite thing to do is to go outdoors she is sad when she has to be brought back inside. Foster Mom puts her in her harness and leash and she loves to walk around the yard. She pulls on the leash when walking, but she is getting better each day she may not have been taken out a lot on a leash in her previous home. Although Gypsy ignores the resident dog Bailey, she does bark at other dogs on her walks and is not real friendly with them due to her blindness. Gypsy was the only dog in her prior home, and has let foster mom know that she needs to be the only dog in her forever home.

Gypsy will roll over for belly rubs and is a pleasant and cheerful little girlie. She will occasionally pick up a squeaky boy, but much prefers to be close to her foster parents and will sit on the couch near them, or on the floor in front of them. She is a quiet little girl unless she hears other dogs barking outside and will bark when someone knocks on the door.

Please dont turn away from Gypsy due to her blindness. She is a happy and healthy little girl in spite of her loss of vision. She will occasionally bump into things, but once she maps her way around the house, this will get better with time. Since Gypsy cannot see, she relies on sound to find her person and she will soon get used to her foster parents voice. Gypsy would prefer a quiet home for this reason. This precious girl is so deserving of an understanding forever home, and if you adopt her, she will love you with all her heart and be a loyal loving companion.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to Gypsys vision loss, she can only be adopted into an adult-only home. She must be an only dog.
