My story

For The Cats' Sake

"MISTIQUE here! Thanks for checking in to meet me! I have been living at my foster's home ever since I came in September '20 with my best friend Delilah. We were really tight, but then she left me to go live in someone's home and I am still here. Don't get me wrong, I love lounging all day inside and once in awhile strolling along in the catio, but I can't wait to go to my own forever home. Every once in awhile someone comes over to pet me and I just can't stand it when they stop because it feels SO GOOD!!! I try to keep them there forever, but then the petting stops and I guess it becomes nap time. I hope that you come see me and pet me, and I might enjoy living in your home, maybe even if you have other cats/dogs, too." Come meet this friendly girl at her Flint Hill Foster home and see if she could be your perfect cat.

We do not have a fixed adoption fee at For The Cats' Sake, but instead ask for a tax-deductible donation to our group. On average, we spend at least $125 to cover foster care, testing for FeLV and FIV, vaccinations, flea treatment, deworming and any vet care/medicine that is needed. We ask that you cover as much of the $125 as you can afford, and set a minimum donation at $50. Our goal is to find the best home for each animal, and we feel this policy makes it possible for more people to adopt one or more cats. It is important to us that every adopter can afford to care for their pets properly and give them a home for life.

Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

Fill out our online application, and we'll call to find out what type of kitty you are interested in, and schedule a visit.

2.

Visit the Facility and Find a Pet

Cats or kittens are generally viewed at our main foster location Flint Hill, when they are ready for adoption, so you willhave a good choice

3.

Home Check

We will deliver your kitty to you and do a basic home check at that time. All vet records will be provided then and the contract signed.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process begins with an application which includes vet references and landlord permission for renters. Potential adopters are encouraged to visit the cats/kittens in their foster homes so they see them in a comfortable situation. In many instances a volunteer will deliver the cat/kitten to their new home to assist the family in preparing their home getting the adoption off to a good start. There are no set fees, we request a donation.

More about this rescue

For The Cats' Sake was founded in 2014 in response to a need for TNR in Rappahannock County, Virginia. Since that time, we have encountered many situations where there is no place for the cats to be returned. In other instances the cats are friendly or there are momma cats too pregnant to be spayed, or young kittens that are adoptable, but need socialization and foster care. Currently we have about 40 cats and kittens in foster care being prepared for adoption. All felines are Up to Date on vaccinations and tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV. Depending on age at time of adoption, they are also Spayed/Neutered.
