My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**WAIVED ADOPTION FEE! Five years ago, we told Jessa her forever was coming. She got so excited for her meet and greet, and waited patiently for the family that never showed. Then we told her again, this time it’s happening, but they decided it wasn’t the right time for a dog. And so she waited again.

Somehow days turned into months. Months into years. Now, this September will mark five years since Jessa stepped off a transport truck from North Carolina, where she was just days away from being euthanized. We saved her life that day. She’s been loved with no pause by her foster dad Chris ever since, but it’s not the same as being ‘home’.

Jessa is almost seven now. A beautiful pit bull mix, sometimes a baby seal, and sometimes a potato. At home, she’s a dream and is truly just a really happy girl. She is house-trained, never destructive, and just likes to hang out waiting for foster dad to come home from work. She loves snuggling on the couch, rolling in the grass, laying by the water, and eating veggies for snacks. She follows gentle kids around the house like a nanny dog, adores visitors (from the little kids to the older folk), and will happily be your shadow all day long. She loves the quiet/relaxed life.

But Jessa’s past left some marks. Sudden loud noises, storms, skateboards, and certain dogs can make her nervous. She prefers peaceful walks and exploring the world at her own pace, just you and her (she does a fantastic job at just keeping to herself and has no interest in other dogs now 99% of the time - after working with several trainers in the city through her triggers). She’s not perfect, but she’s perfectly herself.

Jessa is goofy, deeply loving and just wants someone to come home to her for some snuggles on the couch. She doesn’t know why she’s still waiting. Neither do we.

Jessa deserves to finally hear the words we promised her so long ago: you’ve find your forever home.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

The first step of the adoption process is to complete an adoption application in full at www.rescuecity.nyc. All of our dogs are in foster homes throughout the city. We do not have a physical location where we keep dogs.

More about this rescue

Rescue City is a no-kill, non-profit1 pet rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption organization. Our team of dedicated volunteers is based in Brooklyn, NY and serves the NYC metro and surrounding areas.

Our organization’s motto is: There’s a person for every dog, and there’s a dog for every person…it’s just a matter of time. This applies whether you are looking to adopt a pet, or would like to make a positive impact on the lives of animals. At Rescue City we believe it is our moral responsibility to defend the lives of abused, abandoned, and neglected animals.
We take on helpless stray and surrendered animals, as well as those at the top of the euthanasia list at local and international shelters. We place our rescues in nurturing foster homes while they rebuild their lives through physical and mental rehabilitation. Following a thorough – but hassle free – adoption process, our Rescues are placed in loving, responsible, and committed permanent homes. Every rescue is fully vetted and altered, micro-chipped, and vaccinated upon adoption. Our commitment to our rescues does not stop once the adoption paperwork is signed. We stress the importance of responsible pet ownership, and we educate our Fosters, Adopters, and community on what it means to be a good pet owner.
