My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Oliver, and I am IN LOS ANGELES looking for my forever home! My story is different than other Dove Project dog meat trade survivors.

In April, Dove Project heard that about me, and that I had been in and out of foster and adopted homes since I was a puppy. While I am unable to tell what happened to me, people think that I was abused, neglected, unsocialized, and probably kept outdoors. Dove rescued me and sent me to a trainer's facility for a couple months. Now I'm living with an experienced foster, and looking for my forever family!

The trainer worked with me and provided this assessment: Oliver needs a strong, confident human who is an experienced dog owner. Typical of the Jindo breed, he is independent and sensitive, and he will reciprocate the respect that the human shows him. Oliver is extremely intelligent and has excellent house manners. He will thrive in an environment where he is provided structure, boundaries, and the right amount of affection.

UPDATE FROM MY FOSTER: I have taken Oliver everywhere to socialize him, including short and long car rides, Third Street Santa Monica, Century City Shopping Mall, multiple outdoor seating restaurants, Rosie's Dog Beach, an extended roadtrip to Monterey, where he stayed at a hotel, went on beach hikes, and walked busy tourist areas including Carmel and Fisherman's Wharf. In addition, he goes on long morning walks and to the local park every night for socialization with other dogs. He is learning that humans can be kind and loving. He has amazing recall skills and excellent house manners (is housetrained, doesn't chew up your things, doesn't go through the trash for food). He is such a happy, highly intelligent, very observant dog and will make a perfect addition to an adopter!

More details about me
BREED: Jindo mix
AGE: Approximately 4 years 11 months (approx DOB 6/1/16).
WEIGHT: About 48 pounds
HEALTH: Up to date with all my shots and neutered. My rabies shot expires on 10/9/22
BEHAVIOR: Affectionate with my humans, accepts petting from strangers, and can be dominant with some dogs. I will need leadership and redirection when I become too dominant. I have an independent and extremely loyal personality, which is typical of the Jindo breed. The few months of training with leadership has allowed me to gain confidence so I can show my happy personality.
BACKGROUND: People think I was abused, neglected, unsocialized, and probably kept outdoors. My main issue is being dominant with some dogs. I go to the park every night for socialization and training. I am comfortable with dogs that I know, and will try to show my dominance to new dogs.

ABOUT JINDOS
Jindos are known for their fierce loyalty, high intelligence, rarely barking, and playful nature. They make great indoor family dogs, as Jindos are clean and easily housetrained, and are faithful to family members. They are also mid-level active and love being socialized at dog parks, going on hikes, and joining the family on trips.

ABOUT SHELTER STRESS
Dogs who have lived in shelters for a long period of time develop behaviors due to an environment that is loud, chaotic, and stressful, even in best shelters in the US. Dogs in shelters have limited socialization exposure to people and urban environments. DoVE dogs also come from a traumatic background such as dog meat farms and slaughterhouses. While many of our dogs acclimate within a few months with consistency, structure, and patience, some of our more sensitive dogs can take longer to rehabilitate. It's important to note that these sensitive dogs are even more attuned to human emotions and behavior, making for a deeper connection human-dog connection. DoVE Project is committed to helping our adopters desensitize and socialize our dog meat trade survivors.

*********************************
DoVE Project operates a shelter in South Korea, where our dogs stay until they are matched with an adopter. In the US, our dogs stay in foster homes or in boarding, as we do not have a physical facility. These dogs are identified with "in LA" in their names.
Please note that we only adopt our pups in the Southern California area. Please check our website for more information regarding our adoption process, our mission, and adoption application: https://www.dove-project.org/adoption-process
