My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oliver was found on the cofounder's street and is a sweet boy. He has FIV so is earmarked as special needs. He must be an indoor only cat at all times. He likes people but so far not cats. We are not sure about dogs or kids. He is not an aggressive cat towards people. He likes to be petted and is fun to hae around. Very smart and lovable.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Interested adoptive parents are required to complete an application for adoption. You can request an application via email at sistersanimalsanctuary@frontiernet.net or phone at 916-684-3313. All of our cats are tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), have had a tip-to-tail physical examination, are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, flea free, and wormed.

Our feline adoption fee is $75. This only partially reimburses us for the amount of money we spend on each kitten or cat.

We have rescued several dogs but do not have a facility where we can house them so we partner with other rescue groups and individuals to find them loving permanent homes. Every dog is given a tip-to-tail physical, tested for contagious diseases, vaccinated, spay/neutered, microchipped, and treated with Heartguard and flea/tick medicine. All of the requirements explained above for our feline adoptions and the same for our canine adoptions.

More about this rescue

SAS is a permanent life sanctuary that began in 2003 as a result of two sisters finding a single stray black cat on the side of a freeway. Her name is Freeway and sadly we lost Freeway in 2016. We cannot live with the fact that millions of innocent animals are being killed in U.S. shelters every year which includes approximately 500,000 in California. We have a passion for all animals and are committed to saving as many as we can given the support we receive through donations and using our own personal resources. We were approved for our nonprofit 501(c)(3) status in August 2005. Since that time we have been following our passion and keeping our commitment to all the animals that we rescue.

Our vision is to continue to improve our no-kill sanctuary on our 20 acre site which we own. Our first priority is to find them permanent, loving homes. Those animals who are not adopted will live out their lives in our sanctuary well fed, well loved and without fear. We are committed to doing all we can to help bring an end to the killing of healthy cats and dogs, including feral cats, as well as those who are sick or injured but could regain their health with medical intervention. Further, we embrace The Declaration of the No Kill Movement in the United States, and we envision the day when there are no more homeless pets and when every animal can be guaranteed a safe and loving life.
