My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This beautiful Silky Terrier/Yorkie mix is Lucky Florida Boy. He is about 6 years old and weighs a perfect 15 pounds. Please consider donating to the costs of his eye surgery which restored his vision - read the update below. Lucky is being fostered in Boca Raton, FL.
All dogs being fostered in Florida will need to be adopted within the state of Florida.

UPDATED BIO 06/18/2021: Lucky has previously been medically cleared after his eye surgery and has no more restrictions - hooray! It has been a long journey to get him to this place, but it is all been worth it. He is so happy and that's the best part of this story. Lucky has a follow-up appointment with the doggie eye doctor on July 12th, and if he is cleared for adoption, he will be ready to go to his forever home.

Lucky loves to play with other dogs. He plays with his fur foster sister and brother all the time. Lucky would be okay as an only dog, but he also would be fine with one other friend. Only here's the thing, Lucky has this one little quirk. He gets very agitated when he is sleeping and is woken up abruptly. He can become very anxious and will forget to be his usual calm fun-loving self. He wants his doggie bed to himself and hangs out his imaginary "Do Not Disturb" sign over it. This means that any other dog in Lucky's forever home can be playful but must not be a puppy and must be calm and respectful of Lucky's quiet time. This is likely due to the fact that his vision was very impaired prior to coming into UYR, and blind dogs must be approached cautiously. Some dogs sense medical and/or mobility issues (such as blindness) in other dogs, but others don't. This could potentially change now that Lucky's vision has been restored, but may not. Lucky has also let Foster Mom know that he does not like to be crated, so he needs to go into an adoptive home that understands this. Lucky has not been around children, but he is such an easy-going dog that Foster Mom thinks he would probably be great with mature children (12+ years old).

Lucky is just about a perfect little fella. He loves playing with toys and sitting in the sun. He is well-mannered and rides well in the car. He does have glaucoma in one of his eyes, which will require eye drops daily for the rest of his life. The monthly cost of this RX medication is approximately $40 - $50 per month. He is a really good boy who sits nicely when the drops are administered. Easy peasy! BONUS! Lucky is house-trained and walks nicely on a leash. His foster mom says he is just awesome! Are you ready for some awesome Lucky in your life?

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING BEFORE APPLYING TO ADOPT LUCKY:

. Lucky has an appointment with the ophthalmologist on 07/12 and if cleared for adoption, he will be ready for his adoptive home.

. He does not like to be crated, so his adoptive home must understand this restriction.

. Lucky's RX eye medications will cost approximately $40 - $50 and he will need these meds for life.

. Lucky gets along with older children 12+ years old

UPDATED BIO 05/13/2021: Lucky had his check-up and his eye is doing great and he is medically cleared. He has no more restrictions – hooray! It has been a long journey to get him to this place, but it is all been worth it. He is so happy and that’s the best part of this story. Lucky has a follow-up appointment with the doggie eye doctor on July 12th, and if cleared for adoption, he will be ready to go to his forever home.

Lucky is chasing after toys, running up the stairs, and having fun with the other dogs. He is an absolute pleasure. He still loves being around people and is so funny. It has been several months now and still no accidents in the house and sweet Lucky continues to be very well mannered. He is eating very well and his coat is coming in nicely. Due to the fact that Lucky has glaucoma in one of his eyes, he will require one eye drop daily for his glaucoma for the rest of his life. The monthly cost of this RX medication is approximately $40 - $50 per month.

Lucky does well with other dogs and loves to play but Foster Mom feels he would be happier being the only dog in the home. If disturbed by the other dogs when sleeping, and only when he is sleeping, he gets agitated. This is likely due to the fact that his vision was very impaired prior to coming into UYR, and blind dogs must be approached cautiously. Some dogs sense medical and/or mobility issues (such as blindness) in other dogs, but others don’t. This could potentially change now that Lucky’s vision has been restored, but may not. For this reason, Lucky needs to be the only dog in the home. Lucky has also let Foster Mom know that he does not like to be crated, so he needs to go into an adoptive home that understands this. Lucky has not been around children, but he is such an easy-going dog that Foster Mom thinks he would probably be great with mature children (12+ years old).

I am going to be ready for my furever home in July, so maybe you could put in an application to make me a part of your family? If not, maybe you could donate a few dollars to help UYR with my surgery costs. I am so lucky that so many people have donated toward my surgery and that UYR spent all of those dollars to help me see again, but we really do need more donations to completely cover my surgery. Foster mommy says I am worth it!

If you want a great companion or great family dog for a house with mature kids, Lucky is one of the most well-mannered, intelligent and funny dogs that Foster Mom has had.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING BEFORE APPLYING TO ADOPT LUCKY:

- He needs to be the only dog in the home.

- He does not like to be crated, so his adoptive home must understand this restriction.

- Lucky’s RX eye medications will cost approximately $40 - $50 and he will need these meds for life.
