My story

Hi - my name is Penelope, but everyone calls me Penny. I’m a pretty 11 year old Calico with beautiful green eyes. I was born near Serramonte Ford in Colma, I was rescued with my Mom and Sister in 2011. They were adopted long ago. I am a special needs kitty, I have Hyperthyroid, but it is kept under control with a pill crushed into my wet food twice a day. My other issue is I want to be an ONLY kitty. I tend to get jealous when I don’t get all the attention. I’ve been in a Foster home, however the resident cat didn't like me trying to “claim” her person. I’m a good girl, I use the litter box, and the scratching post. I like sleeping on a human’s bed. I do have a few quirks, I like to be petted-but on My terms, I tend to stare at the other cats, which, intimidates them, and sometimes I tend to race around the house for no particular reason, the humans don’t know why. I am an active and incredibly smart girl, but can also be quite independent. I need an experienced cat owner who will give me the time and patience to help adjust to a new home. Again I want to be an Only cat, I may be good with an easy going dog, and with children 12 and over that understand the ways of cats.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process includes: (1) The application; (2) An in-person meeting with the cat and an HCN volunteer (currently mostly/all contact-free due to the pandemic); and (3) A home visit (currently virtual in most cases due to the pandemic) to discuss safety and adjustment issues, prior to or at the time of adoption. An adoption contract will be signed and an adoption fee collected.
