This awesome 7-year old neutered male American Staffordshire Terrier was found in the South Side neighborhood of Parkersburg WV on June 21, 2021 after a thunderstorm rolled through the area. He was taken to the Humane Society of Parkersburg that day. When their staff checked him for a microchip, they discovered that he had been microchipped at HSOV and contacted our shelter. Our shelter staff picked the big boy up on June 22nd and brought him back to HSOV. When we verified the microchip number, we learned that this was our beloved Thor who had been adopted on May 11, 2021.
We have contacted Thor's adoptive family and hope that he will be reclaimed. In the meantime, we have re-posted his most recent photos and Petfinder description:
Thor is a magnificent neutered male American Staffordshire Terrier who came to the HSOV on April 8, 2019 when he was 5-years old. Thor had been picked up by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden in Marietta Ohio and was later surrendered by his owner. Thor was accompanied by a small male Terrier mix (Benji aka Biscuit) who has since been adopted.
Thor has become a favorite with kennel techs and volunteers so, naturally, we wanted to do something special to help Thor observe his second anniversary on April 8, 2021.
Volunteers John Tynan, Lynncoln Tynan, and Fredley Tynan faithfully walk Thor and are perhaps his most ardent fans. The Tynan family offered to help with Thor’s publicity photos to observe his second anniversary and to provide an appropriate costume. In keeping with Thor’s Nordic mythology theme, they chose a Norse/Viking helmet and red cape. And Thor was a good sport and cooperated with the paparazzi for a lengthy photo session.
Thor has a white-and-tan coat, a long tail, and a gorgeous face with a large patch of tan around his right eye, a liver-colored nose, and short semi-erect ears.
Thor fulfills the legend of his Nordic namesake and is ‘a Paragon of Strength’. Thor weighs approximately 80 lbs and is very strong on the other end of a leash. A former HSOV kennel tech confided that Thor held the title of 'Strongest Dog In Our Shelter’ back in 2019, and we’re pretty sure he still holds that honorary title.
Thor absolutely LOVES water sports (wading pools in our play yards), so we would imagine that his dream home would be with a family who has a swimming pool and enjoys an active lifestyle. Thor also loves Kong toys which are filled with treats. He is often seen carrying them in his mouth or snuggle up with them on his Kuranda bed.
Thor is NOT good with cats or other dogs, so he is looking for a home where he would be an ‘only child’.
We know that the perfect home awaits Thor, and he is patiently waiting to meet that individual or family.
