My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet little Buttons. He is only 3 months old. Buttons is a 5.8 pound Yorkie puppy. He is being fostered in Leesburg, FL.
Dogs being fostered in Florida must be adopted within the state of Florida

UPDATED BIO 6/29/21 Buttons, cute as a button, is a 3-month-old Yorkie, probably Yorkie mix, puppy. He is 5.8 pounds. This adorable, sweet puppy has many more months of growing and may be 10-12 pounds when fully grown, although there is no way of knowing that for sure.

Buttons was found on the street as a stray. How does a small puppy, not even 3 months old end up on the street? That is something we will never know for sure but there is not one good reason anyone can give for that. The shelter noticed that he had a prolapsed rectum that needed an immediate surgical repair. The shelter vet repaired the prolapse and neutered him at the same time. Buttons was given his puppy shots and the very next day they contacted United Yorkie Rescue and asked us if we wanted to take this little guy. Of course we did and withing 24 hours he was out of the shelter. Buttons will be given his DHPP booster shot soon and will be ready for his forever home by July 12th. All he will need when he is adopted is his rabies vaccination when he turns 6 months old.

Buttons is all puppy. He plays fetch with his toys, and will empty the toy box every day picking and choosing whatever toys he wants to play with. Each day his foster mom and dad put the toys away and the next day they are all over the floor again. He tries to play with his foster brothers and sister, but they dont have the puppy energy he does. He loves people and want to cuddle and give them puppy kisses. Who can resist a puppy kiss? No one! His tail never stops wagging back and forth. Its like it has its own motor that keeps it going. He loves everyone. He is just a wonderful, loving, happy, energetic puppy.

Being a puppy Buttons still has a lot to learn. He is smart, but he will need a patient, caring family. He is not yet house trained and being a Yorkie that will take consistency, and only positive reinforcements, never ever yelling or hitting or being in anyway punitive. He has never been leashed walked and we are working on that slowly since we all go out into the fenced backyard most of the time now that it is so hot on the sidewalks. This little guy loves his food so much that using a food reward he will learn everything he needs to learn if he knows there is a food treat at the other end.

When Buttons first came to his foster home, he was afraid to go out or in doors. He wouldnt use the three wide cement steps to the screened porch. We carried him out and in the doors and up and down the steps while working with him one fear a time. He quickly learned it was safe to go out and in doors and down and up the steps. Now there is a hardly a hesitation as he follows the other dogs out and in doors and down and up the steps every time. He has learned he can only go out the doors that leads to the porch or to the fenced yard. Still puppies can be unpredictable, therefore he is carefully watched whenever a door opens. He is, after all, a puppy and puppies have to be watched and taught like all youngsters.

Buttons has shown us there are some things he just loves. His first is people, then toys, then another dog to play with, and finally he loves the fenced backyard where he can run around in and lie in the sun. He is a great eater and he sits nicely in his doggie seatbelt in the car. Buttons prefers to be with us wherever we are. He will be on the bed with us at night until we are ready to turn off the light and go to sleep. Then he will go into his puppy play pen and sleep there all night in his doggie bed.

Buttons, may be okay with well-behaved children 11 years old and older. He needs someone home most of the time to continue to patiently and consistently work with him on his puppy manners and teach him commands like sit, stay, and come. Please keep in mind Buttons is a very young puppy. He needs a family who will be with him his whole life at least 15, 16 or more years.
