My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Arlo is a sweet dog with a forever puppy face and a charming personality.

He’s approximately 18 months old and weighs 18 lbs. We can only guess as to what breeds he is; we think possibly pug, beagle and chihuahua (maybe more!). Whatever his breeds, they make for one darling dog!

His current family is looking for a new home for Arlo. She writes, “I adore Arlo to pieces and it absolutely breaks my heart to have to part with him, but I don't think he's thriving to his full potential in my small inner-city apartment on a busy street and without a yard. As a single-person household, I'm just not able to give him all the time, love and attention that he really deserves.”

Arlo was found as a stray in Texas and he was transported to a rescue in Seattle. It seemed that he had never lived in a home prior to this but he learned the ropes and enjoys the luxury of living in a house with a family.

Arlo is affectionate and very cuddly. He’ll join you on the couch or in a chair if he catches you sitting there. He has basic training and is responsive to cues.

He is very active and, even though he's a little guy, his long legs make him a great companion on hikes, runs and long walks. He is well-socialized for dog parks and doggy daycare too.

Arlo would thrive in an active home with a yard. He would enjoy it if the family already has a playful, dog-friendly dog. He loves children and in his current home, looks forward to his playdates with the neighbor’s children.

He is sensitive to city noises and living on a busy, urban street has been challenging for him. Because of this, he can be leash reactive when he sees other dogs but he doesn’t show signs of aggression. He’d prefer to be in a less-busy neighborhood so that he can relax and not feel like he has to be on guard all the time.

Another challenge has been his resource guarding. If he has a high-value chew, he is not comfortable if a person comes too close (he hasn’t been tested with dogs but it’s suspected he may have the same issue with them). This would be something that his new family would have to work on.

To address his issues, his current person hired a professional trainer (who uses positive methods that don’t include physical reprimand/correction or use of intimidation or fear). She learned techniques to minimize his issues and he’s made great progress but the problems aren’t completely resolved. His adoption fee covers one full session with his current trainer who will show them what protocols have been used in his training so far.

Arlo is healthy and has had routine vet care. His vaccines are up-to-date, he has a microchip and is neutered.
