My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Some people make the world special just by being in it." - Selffa.com. I'll bet you're a special person, aren't you? I think I'm special too. I'm a cute, lovable seven-year-old black and white kitty boy called Carson. My people named me Bruce, but since being returned to the shelter, I've been called by my original name, Carson. I was an affectionate, energetic kitten. In my home, I liked my alone time, but I enjoyed receiving affection and petting. I really bonded with the disabled adult son in the home. I may have understood him, I guess. See, I'm different from many kitties. I have pica. Some kitties get it (people too). It means that we eat things we shouldn't. In my case, I chew on cloth - blankets, soft toys, and things like that. It can be very dangerous, as I found out the hard way. I get lots of TLC from staff and volunteers here at the shelter! I am always up for playing with them, or on my own. I love playing with water under the faucet! I can play with plastic balls and all sorts of toys that I can't chew or swallow, and I can be comfortable in a space without blankets. I trust that you are loving, smart, creative, and capable of giving me the kind of care that a special boy like me needs. Give me a window where I can watch the birds and squirrels and soak up the sun. Let me soak up your love! I will be a happy Carson boy! Let's share our special lives together!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Paws and Claws Humane Society (PCHS) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization that rescues and shelters homeless cats and dogs until they can be adopted into their “forever” homes. We want our clients to understand that adopting and animal is a lifetime responsibility and commitment to that animal.

All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs.

After submitting an application, there is generally a processing period of 1-3 days in order to complete all pre-adoption checks and paperwork before an adopter may take possession of the animal.

More about this rescue

Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.

We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.

Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds. We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.

Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.

We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.

We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.

Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.

Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.

In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.
