My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Roscoe is a very striking, handsome, dapper hound. He loves to play with his brother, sister and foster siblings. He tries to be as brave as possible but always approaches new situations with a lot of caution. Roscoe loves exploring the outdoors. He is a sweet, often goofy, athletic hound. His markings are very distinctive including bright "pumpkins seeds" above his sparkling eyes and absolutely adorable freckles. Roscoe is good with other dogs of all ages & sizes and has been introduced to cats but at a distance. He loves puppies! Kid testing has been very limited due to the pandemic.

Roscoe was born to a stray Mom in a dilapidated abandoned shack.

Completely feral and terrified of humans the Mom could and would not be caught. It was a freezing cold rainy January day when we first saw her litter of 14 huddled together in the corner of the abandoned house with no windows or doors. Too young to take, all we could do was leave food for the Mom each day hoping she would not leave or move her puppies. But she did move them numerous times. Sadly we continued to find dead puppies until one day they all disappeared. At age 4.5 months we were notified that 5 puppies were eating at the abandoned house. We recognized them by their markings and age. These pups were also feral by this time. But we could not leave them to live their lives as strays in a rural county with no animal control or shelter. Were they would likely be shot, poisoned or trapped to be used as bait dog's.

Three of Roscoe's siblings have been adopted and are absolutely wonderful pets. Roscoe and his brother Deputy are still being fostered.

Roscoe will require a very patient adopter or foster  home that is experienced with fearful dogs. His foster home currently has a lot of dogs, including a medical foster. They are managing so many personalities and dynamics they cannot give him the one on one attention he desperately needs. He absolutely requires a fenced yard. Perhaps with another dog that loves to be outside. A family that will give him time and space to adjust. Dirt Road Doggie’s Rescue will provide everything he needs and our full support as he transitions to new surroundings. He will be challenging. But like his siblings, once the barrier is lifted you will have an amazing, special boy to love. Roscoe has a precious tender heart and sweet, gentle soul. He is very special.

Roscoe is up to date on vaccines, neutered, microchipped and heartworm negative. Crate trained, a bit stubborn on a leash but we are working on that.

He is lovingly fostered in Rutledge GA.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Adoption is a four part process.

Application: You will be required to submit general information along with personal and vet references.

Home visit: Potential adopters will receive a home visit by one of our members.

Meet -n- Greet: All family members (fur babies included) must meet the foster parent and pup they wish to adopt.

Here at Dirt Road Doggies Rescue, each adoption contribution is a flat rate per dog. We do not adjust this rate based on the "popularity" of a dog. We believe every dog is worthy of an owner that sees the value in them. Each adoption contribution is used to cover the expenses incurred for that dog and other dogs in our program.

Go meet their pets

Dirt Road Doggies Rescue, INC is located in the quaint town of Gillsville, in the foothills of the Georgia Mountains, just south of Gainesville. Our rescues are fostered in loving homes located in Hall, Jackson, and neighboring counties.

More about this rescue

We are a small canine rescue group located in Northeast Georgia that works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, fully vet, and re-home faithful dogs that have been tossed out of cars onto rural roads. We are a registered, 501c3 tax deductible Non Profit Rescue and we are licensed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture

All dogs in our program have been previously reported to animal control to ensure they were not lost pups who had a family diligently looking for them. We do not turn a dog away due to breed, health concerns, or age. It is our goal to keep these dogs out of animal shelters, thus saving their lives and providing more time to the dogs already in shelters to find their forever family.
