My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hey to Cooper - and his fabulous eyebrows and sweet, sweet smile!

This small (possibly Papillion/mix) youngster is approx 6 years of age and is looking for a very special person to call his own. Someone who is exceptionally kind, loaded with patience and very loving. You see, Cooper came to us from a shelter that had listed him as unadoptable, therefore he was ‘rescue only’. Shelters can be very scary places for any dog, but can be especially terrifying to a little dog who clearly came from an abusive past. Sadly, Cooper did not handle the stress well, and bit a shelter volunteer. That’s where we stepped in with a pledge to Cooper that we would do all we can to give him every chance at a happy life. We believe in patience. We believe in 2nd chances. We believe in Cooper. And it’s amazing what a few weeks in the right pack can do! He is already opening up in his foster home, and is taking strides toward being a happy, well-adjusted boy. He is learning what love feels like, and he's learning that touch means soft caresses and belly rubs, and is learning what it means to be safe. To be a loved dog.

Here’s what his foster mom shared with us:

“When he first arrived, Cooper was overwhelmed and very scared. We gave him time to decompress and he has settled in really well. He gets along with the other 5 dogs in our home, and he knows his name and comes when called. Cooper is 100% a lap dog. He gets as close as he can and reminds you to pet him. He is seriously the most 'desperate for attention' dog I've ever known. He does go outside to potty but doesn’t hesitate to lift a leg if left without a belly band - so we're still working on house-breaking. Cooper likes a calm environment. When two of the dogs get playing he tries to separate them. This little guy just needs to build confidence and understand he is loved.”

Cooper wants you to know that he already walks well on a leash and he wears a well-fitting harness because if he slips it off he’ll lead you on a merry chase. He is a very smart little guy who loves lying in the grass in the morning. He also loves to explore the yard.

IMPORTANT! We will be looking for "just the right" home for Cooper. The adopter will need experience with undersocialized, reactive dogs, no young children in the home, a secure backyard, and possibly other dogs in the home he can learn from. Cooper really needs a patient, safe, kind home where he can learn that ‘life is good’ and fear and aggression doesn’t need to be a thing.
