Doug is a 5-year-old Shepherd/Retriever mix who wandered into the care of HSSM on January 6, 2026 after being picked up as a stray. He had no collar or tags, but he was microchipped, giving us hope that someone out there was missing him. Sadly, despite multiple attempts, no one came forward—and now Doug is ready to turn the page and start a brand-new chapter with a loving fur-ever family. Weighing in at 47 pounds, Doug is a lovable, lanky bundle of goofy charm with a personality as big as his heart. This playful boy lives for yard time—especially if tennis balls are involved—and he’s happiest when he’s romping around, soaking up the sunshine, and showing off his signature silliness. Doug is also quite the chatterbox and has a lot to say, happily narrating his day and keeping you entertained with his very vocal commentary. Doug walks well on a leash, making afternoon strolls and outdoor adventures easy and fun. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and ready to go home. HSSM is home to over 300 pets on any given day, most of which are looking for new forever homes! Your new best friend could be waiting at HSSM right now. Our beautiful, 41,000 square foot facility is currently open to the public. HSSM is open for adoptions Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary to adopt, however, adoptions are first-come, first served. You must come to HSSM to complete your adoption and make sure you bring a photo ID, as it is required to complete adoption paperwork.
Our adoptable animals page is self-updating and displays ALL of HSSM’s adorable adoptable pets from “pocket pets” to birds and of course the hundreds of dogs and cats currently calling HSSM home! See one you like? Make sure you note your favorite’s name and animal ID number so that HSSM staff and volunteers can easily find him/her when you come in!
Adoptions are cut off every day about 30 minutes prior to closing and possibly earlier if volume is high. Weekends are busy and you may have to wait more than an hour (especially in the afternoons) so please be prepared.
