Piper Bea I`ve decided to stop reading the newspaper, checking my Facebook, or listening to the news. It makes me too anxious, and if you are a cat, anxiety is something to avoid! I am a 9-year-old female orange Tabby, which is something I try not to worry about. Only 2 out of 10 orange cats are female! But I don`t know why! I am a large girl at 12.5 pounds, so I tend to avoid wearing bathing suits. Please don`t tease me about my figure. You can probably tell I lack self-confidence. But I have been adopted and returned to HSHC 4 times. That gives a girl an inferiority complex. My last owner kept me for four years and only returned me because he could not afford my medical care. He had many positive things to say about me. For example, I am a playful girl who loves string toys and chasing laser pointers. I love having you pay attention to me because I am super affectionate. I will seek people out for pets and scratches. I greet strangers with friendly curiosity. The ten-year-old child and I got along well. I quickly learned to redirect any scratching to the cardboard scratchers or posts. The only reason I take medicine is to help me control my anxiety. It`s called Feline Idiopathic Cystitis, which is an inflammation of the bladder with an unknown cause. However, stress is suspected to be a significant contributing factor to this condition. Ways to detect an FIC `flare up` include frequent trips to the litter box, with or without producing small quantities of urine, blood in the urine, abdominal pain, and avoidance of the litter box. To help promote a healthy urinary tract/bladder, I`ve been fed Hills C/D Multicare Stress prescription food. All this means that providing me with medicine, diet, and the proper introduction to your home will be crucial to my adoption success. A calm, predictable routine is just what the doctor ordered! But more than that, I need someone who understands my anxiety and can provide the support and care I need. The interview lady (IL) has known me ever since I first checked into the HSHC in 2016. She has always felt that I am a loveable, friendly cat who loves being petted and scratched. She thinks I am a beautiful girl and hopes that someone who can sympathize with my nervousness will see beyond it and fall in love with me. 9-25-25

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
