My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello People,
My name is Vivi and I’m a sweet and quite sassy little girl of five looking for a forever home. My foster Mom says I’m very loving and affectionate -- and as feminine as they come. I’m all of 12 pounds, am housebroken (and use the doggy door) and I love my crate. I even put myself to bed at night if I’m tired (but Mom lets me come in to the Big People’s Bed in the morning for a cuddle or two or three!)

Dad says I’m a diamond in the rough. He and Mom are doing their best to teach me the proper way to behave in the world. I’m definitely making progress but will need to continue my ‘learning’ with someone who is a super smart and VERY savvy dog person. If that sounds like you, please read on!

While I am long on (good) looks and cute as can be, I’m also pretty willful. I like to do what I like to do (which is why I need someone who is smarter than I am and will guide me into perfect behaviors.)
I walk well on a leash and am learning to relax in the car. I do best on short drives and when I can listen to music.

I do love to cuddle and am known for springing up into your lap to cuddle at the slightest provocation and wanting you to pet my head ( but only my head, please!). If you are lying on the sofa, I love to roll on top of you and make cute little "snorty" noises as I turn around.

Unfortunately I’m not a pup that is good around children. If you have children or grandchildren that visit I’m not the one for you. Sorry! I’m an ‘adults-only’ kind of pup. Mom says before I became a FurKid I was adopted simply because I am cute. So I formed some bad habits that she is helping me to overcome. Since I’m smart, I’m definitely learning what to do and not do.

I’m also a bit selective about making friends. I bark when people come to the door (Dad says I’m a great watchdog) but when I know someone, I’m much friendlier. I also guard my toys, which is why I’m best as the only pup in the house.

My Ideal Home:
*Someone home most of the time
* NO other FurKids--as I like to be the center of attention
* Adults only
* NO children or grandchildren
* Committed to training me

Experience level:
*Recent dog experience a must!
*Rescue dog experience a plus!
*Experience with behavioral training a real plus!!!

Because I wasn’t successful in my ‘past life’ I’m hoping to make up for lost time – and am looking for adopters who will appreciate my femininity and my affectionate nature – and will continue to work on my training so I can become the best little girl that I can be. Mom says there is no doubt that I’m well worth the effort but you have to know my signals so that I can be successful.

If I sound like the pup you are looking for please let us know. It will be a very special home to which I am adopted as I’m a very special kind of pup. If that sounds like you, please send an email explaining your experience and background to bfkapplicants@gmail.com If you sound like you represent a fit, we will be back in touch.

Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

Our Adoption Procedure: We require a written application at www.bichonfurkids.org

2.

Approve Application

All applications are screened and responded to by an Applications Coordinator.

3.

Home Check

We require a home/yard safety check which is done with a checklist and photos due to COVID restrictions.

4.

Approve Application

Once approved, our Placement Volunteers get in touch then forward applications that appear to be a good fit to the foster parents

5.

Meet the Pet

They then contact adopters to schedule a virtual adoption visit prior to an adoption visit held outdoors in keeping with COVID requirements

Additional adoption info

Prospective adopters must complete an online application available on our web site. A volunteer then conducts a telephone interview to review the application, followed by requesting a home and yard safety check. Once that has been completed - and if the prospective adopter is approved -the Placement staff will talk with the approved adopter to provide information regarding pups in our foster program that may represent a fit. That will be followed by the foster Moms and Dads contacting the approved adopter to answer questions and schedule an adoption visit at the foster home.

We require an adoption contract for each furkid plus the adoption donation. The fee for pups over one year of age
is $400.00 and is tax-deductible. The adoption fee for our puppies is $500. Our dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated when adopted and come with an 'adoption kit' which includes a bed, blanket, pillow, leash, collar, vitamins, toy and treats.

Donations beyond our adoption fee are also appreciated so that we can rescue and save more lives.

Go meet their pets

Our pets are all cared for in loving foster homes. While in foster care, the foster family ensures that they receive lots of tender loving care, have any medical needs addressed, get lots of exercise and training. This gives the foster family an opportunity to learn about each pup's personality so we can develop a bio that describes the furkid. In turn that knowledge enables us to better assist you in selecting a dog that will be the best fit for you and your family.

More about this rescue

Bichon FurKids Rescue focuses on Bichon Frises and Bichon mixes in need of forever homes. We rescue from local shelters, as well as provide services for pets who are surrendered directly to us. Our dogs are cared for in foster homes where they learn to be socialized, housebroken and to become part of a family. Our services are highly personalized - and we work directly with our volunteers to help rescued dogs successfully transition to new homes and lives.
