My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mango is one of the twin boys from the Apple litter. He loves to play with his brother, climbing and hanging out on his cat tree is a daily favorite! Sweet as can be and loves to cuddle after a good play session.

Mosh Pit Rescue Kitten Adoption - General Information

Age Restrictions: Adopting a super tiny kitten to kids under 6 is on a case by case basis and usually not permitted. Kids that young have a hard time being gentle with a new kitten and a slightly older cat (4mo-adult) is a better fit.

Every family member and your landlord if applicable must know about and agree to getting a new kitten. No presents or surprises.

Adopters have to be able to contain a kitten. Ideally for the first few weeks a kitten would be kept in a bedroom, bathroom or other smaller space. Adopters need a kitten collar with a bell and need to discuss the plan to contain the kitten safely with the entire family including children in the home.

Mosh Pit does not adopt indoor/outdoor cats and will not adopt to anyone planning to declaw.

Cats can live 20 years. Picture yourself 20 years from now and be sure you're ready for that commitment before adopting a kitten.

At a minimum, adopters should expect all Mosh Pit Cats and Kittens to have UTD vaccines, deworming, microchips, FELV/FIV testing and a vet visit. Kittens are more complicated as rabies cannot be given until 4 months and spay/neuter is usually done about 3 months. Vaccines are given at 8, 12 and 16 weeks. If MPR is adopting out a kitten that has not yet been spayed or neutered due to age, an appt will be preset and adopters must agree via contract to bring the cat to the spay/neuter appt at MPR’s expense. MPR will discuss the flea cycle and if an animal has not been with us for 4 months will provide the remaining flea treatments to complete a full flea cycle.

Usually MPR covers vet visit 1 (which includes the first vaccine), vet visit 2 (spay/neuter and vaccine 2) and the adopter covers vet visit 3 at their vet for vaccine 3 and rabies.

We typically FIV/FELV test the mom if available. If not we will test one of the litter of kittens. We recommend every kitten be re-tested at 1 year at the 1 year vet visit.

Kittens are dewormed with Drontal and tested for coccicia/giardia if there is any reason to reasonably believe they have a need. This will be discussed with adopters. We recommend a fecal test at the 3rd appt that includes both coccidia and giardia.

If you are interested in adoption a Mosh Pit kitten or cat, please answer the following questions and copy/paste your replies to us either via Facebook message or email to moshpitrescue@gmail.com:

What cat/kitten are you applying for and why did you choose that cat or kitten? (Leave blank if not applying for a specific animal.)

Please provide your full name, address, email address, phone number, your name on Facebook and a description of your profile picture/cover photo so we can find you.

Please provide the name of your vet and their phone number. If you do not have a vet yet, who do you plan to use? (We can recommend high quality vets if needed - we can also advise against vets we feel are inadequate.)

How many people live in your home and what are their ages? Are all members of the family in agreement about getting a pet? Are other children around frequently who do not live in the home (do your grandkids visit regularly)?

How many other animals are in your home? Are they fully UTD and vetted? Are all other pets in your home fixed? If not please provide an explanation and a letter from your vet explaining.

Why do you want to get a kitten/cat? If you already have pets, why do you want to get another cat/kitten? Why do you feel the pet you applying for is a good fit for your home?

Where will the pet sleep? If the answer is “in your bed” are all people sleeping in that bed in agreement about sleeping arrangements?

Do you agree your pet will be an inside pet? (No outdoor cats or indoor/outdoor cats.)

Are you able to pay for routine daily expenses, routine vet care and if needed do you have a plan to pay for emergency vet care? What would happen if your pet had an emergency on a Saturday night at 10pm? Do you have reliable transportation?

Do you have any plans to travel or be away from your new kitten for the first several weeks after adoption? In the future, do you plan to travel and if so who will take care of the kitten while you are away??

Do you agree to provide fresh air, food, and water to your new pet? If smokers live in your home, will you provide fresh clean air for the pet to breathe?

Do you have plans to, or have you, altered any pet in your home? Have you ever declawed a cat, cropped a dog’s ears or docked a dog’s tail? We understand many people used to declaw cats when we didn’t understand how inhumane the surgery is. We do ask that if you’ve previously declawed a cat you understand why that is no longer acceptable and specifically state you would never plan to declaw again.

Do you understand pet adoptions are for life? Not until you move, have a baby, etc? Do you understand that if you do need to rehome a MPR animal that animal must be surrendered back to MPR and cannot be given away to anyone, including family members, without those family members clearing our adoption procedures?

Has your landlord approved the pet you plan to adopt?

Do you understand upon adoption, your new pet will need time to adjust? Will you be patient with your new pet as they learn where to sleep, eat, pee, and learn they are safe and loved? The first few weeks can be an adjustment and an adventure - are you ready to commit to loving your new pet through this transition?

Please provide any other information you feel we would need to know to determine if an animal is a good fit for your home.

Do you understand and agree to a non-refundable adoption fee of $100/kitten? Adoption fees help us continue our mission and help us feel comfortable that a pet will be financially cared for. If someone cannot afford an adoption fee, we are generally uncomfortable that they would be able to handle other pet expenses/vetting. If for some reason there are special circumstances, please explain here. Each kitten costs us well over $100 in vet costs alone - we also incur costs for food/litter and toys. We estimate each kitten costs us approximately $300 to vet and care for prior to adoption.
------------------------------------------
Adopters need unscented clumping litter, a litter scoop, a litter box, food and water bowls, kitten toys, Iams kitten food in the purple bag, wet food, possibly KMR, a cat carrier and a comfy little bed for the kitten to sleep in.
