My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Name: Bear

Nicknames: Bear Bear

Age: Adult

Weight: 80 lbs

Other dogs: Should be the only dog in the home

Cats: No

Kids: Older kids OK due to size

Housing -  Bear requires a house with a fenced in yard

Best qualities: So sweet and gentle. Loves the simple things in life. Give Bear Bear a ball, a peanut butter bone and a yard and he is a happy boy.

Most unique trait: How much his butt wiggles when he has a ball. The way he pouts when he’s mad.

In the house: Very good boy. Quiet and non-destructive. Not a big cuddler but loves a good butt scratch or belly rub. Happy to hang out and chew on a bone or ball in between naps. Crate trained, housebroken, OK with baths. Just wants to be with his humans!

Out and about: Bear Bear is working on dog reactivity, especially small dogs and those on leash, and working on being in new situations. He is also overcoming his fear of ducks, cats and other small animals. He needs an owner with experience, patience and confidence. For Bear's safety, he has been muzzle-trained for walks and this will be a requirement for his adopted family.

Dietary/medical requirements: Environmental allergies – on Benadryl and allergy shots.

What foster mom/dad wants you to know: Bear Bear is a sweet, sensitive soul in a big, beefy bod. Once he warms up to you his silly side comes out! He is a card-carrying member of the “ball is life” club and loves a good nap in the sun. Outside his yard, Bear sometimes thinks the world is a scary place, and he’ll need an experienced dog owner with calm, confident energy so that he can feel safe.

Please consider sponsoring Bear with either a one-time or monthly tax-deductible donation. Your donation will help It's The Pits with day-to-day care, including food, vaccinations, flea treatment, treats and toys. Click on the Sponsor This Pet link above to make your donation today. Thank you!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Potential families are asked to complete or Adoption Application before visiting our dogs. We introduce you and your family including any other dogs/cats in your family to our adoptable dogs. If the meeting is a good match we will schedule a home check to ensure that the home is a good match for the pet that you have selected. You will then be asked to complete our Adoption Agreement and to finalize the adoption there will be a processing fee to adopt a pet from us. All proceeds go directly back to help support our rescue and there are no paid employees so all fees are used for our pets waiting to be adopted.

More about this rescue

We are located in the San Diego area and pull dogs from southern California shelters and we assist families in rehoming their pets so that they don't have to go to a shelter.

I started doing rescue because I couldn't stand to see adoptable dogs being euthanized due to lack of an immediate home. I knew that I could find them good homes.
