My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ariel is not only a beautiful cat, she's also unique!

She has a small black "beard" and a short tail and looks very similar to a Japanese Bobtail, even though that breed isn't reflected in her DNA report. She's half American Domestic Cat with lower percentages of Norwegian Forest Cat, Highlander, Scottish Fold, and Siamese/Oriental Cat.

At two and a half years old, Ariel really isn't a kitten any more, but she's still energetic and curious. She loves to play, and "the zoomies" are part of her daily exercise routine.

She has also become very affectionate and loves to cuddle in her foster mom's lap.

Ariel was rescued with her sister, Abby, and both are currently being fostered in a home with two other cats. Ariel gets along with everyone. If she isn't adopted with Abby, she would do very well as a companion for a cat (or cats) already in the adopter's home.

The HPC adoption process involves a foster period (to ensure a good "fit") before the adoption is finalized. Since HPC visits the home during that time, potential adopters need to be in the Bradenton/Sarasota (Florida) area.

Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

Our application requests information about the adopter, other members of the household (including pets), and the home environment.

2.

Approve Application

Before an application is approved, we contact personal and vet references.

3.

Meet the Pet

If the application is approved, we schedule a "meet and greet." If that goes well, we move to the next step.

4.

Home Check

We take the desired animal to the home. Everyone in the family, including other pets, must be present.

5.

Take the Pet Home

If the home visit goes well, the family fosters the animal for several weeks. Adoption occurs if HPC and the family feel the "fit" is good.

Additional adoption info

Our application can be found at the bottom of the "Adopt" page on the HPC website. All animals are examined (with blood work and any other testing needed), altered, and vaccinated prior to adoption. The adoption fee is $100 for adult dogs, $50 for senior dogs, and $50-75 for cats. We are a volunteer-based sanctuary, so it may take a day or two to process your application.

Go meet their pets

We have three locations in the Bradenton/Sarasota area of Florida: Myakka City, East Bradenton, and West Bradenton. We attend community-wide adoption events, and we also schedule our own events at local pet stores.

More about this rescue

We provide refuge and rehabilitation for abandoned and abused animals until they are adopted.
