My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tyla von Tulau is a beautiful 2-3 year old German Shepherd. Tyla is a sweetheart who enjoys the finer things in life, especially people! She is very a very loving and affectionate girl and is always happy to make new friends. On her walks, Tyla is a superstar – she walks nicely by your side with a happy and curious demeanor (she does enjoy sniffing around new places!). She enjoys pets and getting her ears scratched – she’ll lean in for more once you get started! Heckin’ smart and with a great medium level of energy, Tyla is housebroken, crate-trained, has been well-behaved in a home setting, and knows her “sit," “paw” and “down” commands. In her playgroups, Tyla is comfortable. She likes to run around the yard, explore and greet the other pups like a champion. This extra good girl would love to meet her forever family! (Just no small dogs or cats please.)

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
