My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Louie is approximately 11 years old and weighs 13.4 pounds. This guy is one sweet pup. Louie is being fostered in Bradenton, FL.

UPDATED BIO 01/26/2022: Louie arrived in UYR a little over four months ago. This little fella was picked up off the street by Animal Control and taken to the local shelter. He was full of fleas and had a large dangling mass on his lower jaw, which was surgically removed by the shelter vet. After it was dissected, it was found to be very infected. They gave him antibiotics and treated the area. This poor little guy must have been in so much pain from this severely infected mass.

Fast Forward 4+ months: Louie is a very sweet, older boy who loves the simpler things in life – a nice walk, a sunbath, and a snuggle is all he needs to be happy. He likes to roam during the day and find a sunny spot out in the yard or lanai. A fenced yard would be perfect for him and a BIG but not a deal breaker if he is taken out 3-4x a day. Louie’s remaining teeth were removed at a previous dental due to excessive decay, which causes his little tongue to peep out of his mouth from time-to-time (this gives him great character!), and oftentimes he will shake his head to toss it back in. This does not affect his ability to eat for sure.

Louie is hearing- impaired – not vision-impaired as we originally thought. He can hear loud claps, but has trouble hearing human voices. Regarding his house-training – it is still a work in progress but is definitely improving. When he is taken outside after meals and first thing in the morning, he does well at avoiding indoor accidents for the most part. He's not perfectly trained – yet - but he doesn't have regular accidents any longer as long as he can go out at the "right" times.

Louie will ask for pets & cuddles by lifting up his human’s hand with his nose and so enjoys the attention. He does not get along with cats, but has gotten along with dogs inside the house just fine. Even though Louie doesn’t engage in play with other dogs, he will wag his tail at any dog he meets - inside the house. Meeting dogs outside is quite different - he is leash-reactive, which means he pulls and barks/growls when he sees other dogs or other dogs approach. His foster mom has been working with him on this and his new adoptive parents must continue working with him unless they have a fenced yard where he can be taken out.
